Your forgetting about one thing with alloy shafts and ctms.... The ring gear, housings, ect. won't usually go first... The hubs will. Pony up the extra cash for a warn Premium hub and then your weak link is free to fix when it pops... Gotta love the lifetime warrenty on warn premium hubs... Ive replaced mine on my scout 44 about 8 times free of charge.
I still thing anything larger than a 35" tire on a 44 is a disaster waiting to happen....

Why ask for.02???????

Why ask for anyones opinion if you are just going to argue with them??????? Hope I don't run into you on the trail with a broken axle.  Blaze

I think I'll wait till I break something, I know alot of XJ guys run 40's on D44's without probs, you just have to wise about the skinny peddal. I don't think I'll worry about CTM's I'd rather keep the u-joint as the weak link in the system cheaper to repair if I take out one of them. If I do snap an axle then I'll go to alloys. As for now I think I'll stick to it as is. But I think I'm leaning towards the SSR's just because of DD use... now a 39x12.50 in SSR would be lovely.
I ran 38.5's on a HD d44 front. I broke 3 shafts. I was not wheeling it hard when I did, and your rig wieghs alot more than my Jeep. I would go with the 36 IROK If I were you.

I was asking opinions on the tires, not on my axles.

you honestly don't think the HD D44 could handle the 39's? I've heard of alot of other ford guys running 39's on them without any probs, as long as they don't get to happy with the skinny peddal.
I ran the 37" SSR's on my waggy with 44's front and rear. I started snapping front axle shafts. I'm pretty sure my rig is lighter than yours. So, I would say 39.5's is asking for problems. I switched to one ton gear in order to run my Iroks (39.5).

As far as tire life both tires are made of soft compound. The Iroks are softer in the bias ply form, don't know about the radials. I thought my SSR's wore pretty fast and my rig doesn't see much DD.

lol I think I've made my decision. Although it's neither the SSR or the IROK lol. I think I'm gonna go with the Michelin XZL. I think I'm gonna have to do some sipping and maybe some broving on them though to improve ice/snow traction. Aside from that they're pretty much eveything I'm looking for. Now hopefully the $250 rummored price is real, just waiting to hear back on a quote.

yes, sipping and broving, a new technique similar to siping and groving but has better results :D

They're an 11R16 basically about a 39 R 16... debating the R20's though...
