I needed a couple of chunks of steel to finish up a few projects and thought I'd give them a try as I've heard about them being cool and all. They have steel of all types and have pretty reasonable prices from my perspective.

Especially interesting to me was their remnant room. They sell by the pound in there. I found what I needed , weighed it and took the slip up front to pay. They also have welding, grinding supplies, and equipment. Someplace a guy could spend a bunch of $ in a hurry. I bought 40 lbs of steel, five 4" cutoff wheels (always brand experimenting with those) and two 4.5" grinder disks for under $40. Seemed pretty reasonable to me.

Worth checking out if you don't need a big order and possibly worth checking out if you do.

I paid $.79/lb (+tax) at metal mart a few weeks ago, so it sounds like it is quite a bit cheaper based on other stuff Marc picked up...

It also sounds like the remnant "room" is indoors? That would be nice compared to metal mart

Their pricing goes down with volume. I think for 1-20 lbs, they are $.79. Seems like it went down in $.10 increments per 20 lbs? I think I paid $.59 per lb.?

And yes, the remnant room is indoors. EVERYTHING they have is indoors with the exception of what looked like some drilling pipe or something?

I go there when I need steel and they treat me really well. I wander through the remnants regularly and have picked up most of the steel for the commando project there. They even ask me how the jeep project is going whenever I show up.

I went there once.. The people were nice, and we had a good experience, but it seemed very expensive to me. I assumed that keeping scrap metal in a heated/cooled building costs more than an open rack in a parking lot, and so prices were a bit higher. It also seemed like they had a wider selection of specialty scraps such as blocks and heavy duty metal, as apposed to typical flat, C, or angle.

I had SSS and Wasatch give me quotes last week for some pieces for my smoker.

Exact same pieces-
SSS was $132.80
Wasatch was $213.78

Goodbye Wasatch.

So I was going to go to SSS for my recent steel needs, and i called and got a quote, I then called MetalMart (which is about 1/2 hour closer to me) and told them my quote and MetalMart pricematched my quote from SSS. So I saved the hour in drivetime and still got the same price. Although it was my first time I was actually truly impressed with MetalMarts customer service.

Metalmart is a great place too, just further away for me. I did buy all of my steel for my trailer build from them. They don't have near the size/selection of remnants either.

This place rocks. I had to build some corbels for our kitchen counter top and needed some ornamental steel as well as some misc flap strap. They hooked me up, let me browse their back room for items they might not have on the wall in the showroom and then were quick to load my steel and get me on my way. I'll be back.

i went there on saturday and i was really impressed. the indoor remnant room was really well organized and they had some really nice stuff, not just junk. the remnant price is 55 cents/lb. the sign in the remnant room says differently but they told me they are working on replacing the sign.

oh and i told them that they should carry DOM and that of course prompted him to ask me how i heard of the store- i told him rockymountainextreme and he said he has seen a lot of people from here. nice guys in there and great customer service!
