well it will be sas with alpro 6 inch leafs in the front and chevy 63's in the rear with revolver shackles. i will be using 14 bolt rear 44 front OR 44s front and rear i know 4 and or 3 links would be ideal but i cannot afford it and im fine with leafs... it is a 99 4runner sr5 3.4 auto with 289000 miles. i would like to hear what you guys think. and if any one has done it what kinda crazy things can i expect ??? thanks!!! Wow, that's a good amount of miles.. That truck has been around. Check the front of the motor for a tag with a date depicting whenyhe last time the timing belt was replaced.. By that many miles it probably should've had the belt replaced 3 times to keep up with PM.

It's a great motor, hopefully it carries through to half a mil! That'd be awesome!

Leafs should keep the price down for sure, and be pretty simple to setup. What gearing do you plan on running? Lockers? Tire size?

6 inch leafs? You plan on running 49's? If you plan on using it for rockcrawling, I would run stock waggy or 3 inch toyota springs at most to keep your CG low and if you plan on trying to keep it street legal.

^ not sure how I missed that. Lewis brings up a good point. I ran 3" springs on my 85 4runner(sprung over) and had plenty of room for 37" tires.

Agreed. 6" springs wayyyy too tall unless you plan on running a tire that is way too big for the D44 anyway. Are you set on full widths? Trying to stay street legal? On a budget I would keep the stock rear axle (especially over a rear D44) and run a Waggy front. I'm not a fan of the 63's unless you plan to run a very large tire (39"+) They hang so far out the back that they become a rock anchor and do more bad than good imo. I would consider keeping the coil suspension in the rear and building stronger links. If you go with rear leafs don't run the revolver shackles especially on a vehicle like this with more rear weight--they do very bad things :ugh:

I like hearing about high mileage Toyotas  Is the engine original?

yep all original and yess full widths i really wanna try the 63s and revolvers like way bad ive seen them on other rigs and thay look super flexy my ideas on the revolvers is a limiting strap from center of axle to the bar i am gonna make for the shocks... so no unloading but wont stop flex. and as of right now 6 inch and 63s is all i have to work with :-\

my buddys 2 gen has six and its gonna run 35s

I bet people laugh at it.. That is, if your buddy truly has 6" leaf springs and a SOA.. Is his rig SAS'd?

That'd look pretty ridiculous, and serve no purpose.

it is sas'd and it actually looks good im not 100% sure that they are 6's but thats what he was told when he bought it. but im 85% sure i bought mine from some one on ksl and he said they are 6's but maybe not. is there a way to tell for sure?

The thing about SOA and spring hieghts, is that you gotta factor in the added hieght(lift) from putting the springs over the axle. Roughly 4"s for the SOA alone, then say 3" springs.. That would be approx a 7" lift.. To do a SOA and use 6" springs would put you at approx 10"s of lift.

I wonder if your buddy ran 6" springs sprung under? Or more than likely they are roughly a 2-3" spring that he used on a SOA setup and refered to them as 6" lift springs because overall he got that much lift? I don't know.

it is sprung over for sure. i guess if it does end up to big i can try to trade them for smaller ones i am actually gonna start the rear tomorow i got 4 inch block for the rear but with what i have seen / read with how my frame is i wont need them... a question i have is (noob question) when i mount the hangers in the rear do i want the rear hanger directly above the and of the leaf spring?

Well if your buddy is running a toy minitruck axle they are spring over axle factory. My dads truck is a 93 sas'd with 5" tg springs and 38" ss and wheels awesome, and very stable. You go the same amount of lift on a 95+ Toyota you they are huge! The chassis on the them hang down lower making the body look huge when you sas them. The only Toyotas I have ever seen with a spring under is the older cruisers, and nobody uses those axles to sas a newer Toy.

ill be usin the revolvers but like ive been hearing i will probly end up wanting to get rid of them...

As for the revolvers I wouldn't ever run them, but TG and Allpro both have a flex joint style shackle rear hanger that does great on and offroad. The are only $79 for TG's and won't unload like a revolver when you have to mash the brakes:D
