Can anyone tell me what is going on with this lic plate? It's on a 200* Range Rover.

It's ALL glossy black and the stickers are on the bottom corners. It doesn't look like the guy just painted it (illegal) - It looks like it was made that way. It looks like a vintage plate, especially because the "UTAH" is embossed. I thought you had to have a vintage car to use those old plates. And I think those old plates had the year stamped in them too.

Weird...??

you can request to transfer your plate over to your new car if you wanted to... so maybe he just keep the plate and transferred it over...

From my understanding, if you have a matching pair you can get them registered for your vehicle.

My understanding is that if you go out and buy a set the year of the plate has to match the year of the car. The only way I know this to be possible is if the plate has been in his name from day one and he has moved it from car to car.

Exactly, you have to have both plates. I had one black one that I tried to register my 510 with...they said no because I only had one plate. :-\

DMV site refers to 'plate' as in singular?? I'm almost thinking some vintages of plates would not have been issued as doubles?

There were a couple years that they only issued one plate, although it was in the mid 1900's during the war time era. I doubt they will let you use only one plate based on the utah "2 plate law"

You need to clean you windshield!:D

It's getting bad.

If the antique plate number is not currently assigned to another vehicle on the Motor Vehicle file and does not conflict with a currently issued series, the antique plate may be used in substitution for a regularly issued plate.

I guess that's what he has.

Antique plates may be restored and repainted to the original issue paint, for limited use such as shows, parades, special events, etc.

His were definitely painted.
