Steel question

I'm looking at making some square tube sliders and it looks like the cold rolled steel is only offered pretty thin like .083 and didn't really want to use the hot rolled. I was thinking of using the 4130 alloy steel. The two questions I have are would .120 be plenty since it would be stronger then the metal most sliders are made of at that thickness or go .250? Also I'm assuming that the 4130 alloy is cromoly steel and would it be ok to weld round DOM tube for kick outs to it and use a mig welder with flux core and no gas? If this is a bad idea what type of steel do people use for their square sliders? I'm looking at 2"x2". Thanks

I built mine out of 1 1/2" x 3" I can't remember wall width but it wasn't 1/4" (probably 3/16").

Attached is a pic.

I was just looking online at the Metal Supermarket at the different types. Do they just call it hitch steel and do you have to go to a trailer supply place or anyone carry it?

A thickwall 2x2 tube would have plenty of strength, the weak spot is going to be the leverage against the mounting points anyways.
The way tubing is made, you won't readily find cold rolled thickwall stuff, it's just too hard to get that small of a bend in it.

It is best that Alloy steel be tig welded, otherwise the strength of the weld and the material is compromised.
