How strong is the suction cup mount? I want to put it on the bow of a boat but I don't want it taking a swim. It will see wind speed of 80+ mph. Thanks in advance
I use my section cup mount often. It’s so easy to move around and change positions. I’ve used it on a snowmobile going 80+ mph and on the side of a wave runner. The wave runner tested it the most, it think. While turning the gopro and mount dip under water and it never ripped off. I still typically tether the mount with some para-cord, though.
It'll handle those speeds just fine as long as its clean and wet when you mount it. I'm still scared of losing mine in the water, so I tie a big floaty to the mount when I'm in deep water.
Will the floaty bacpac still float with the tripod attached to it? Paracord is a great idea as long as it stays behind the lens. The only time my suction cup mount has come off was when I put it on a dusty truck, or when it got knocked off by hitting something like rocks. I have never had one of the adhesive mounts come off yet. You may want to put some adhesive mounts to the boat instead of the suction mount. That way the float bacpac would still work if it did happen to fall off.
Gopro says they've tested the suction cup up to 200mph on airplanes.
