Stinger Alternate!

I know that a stinger is "old news" and looked down upon on RME, but what does a guy have for alternatives?

What is the next "new thing" for radiator/ nose protection?

I like to subtle look of the front of my Jeep and want it to stay that way without adding a massive amount of tube to the front end.

Post up some pictures!!!

I think the key idea is to have just enough height on your protection to keep your hood, radiator, and grill in good shape. Anything more and it detracts away. Or the hardcore thing to do was do nothing and just smash a bunch of stuff

I throw most stingers in the same group as nerf bars and roof mounted spare tires.

A small one that is verticle enough not to interfere iwith entrance angles....scratch that. I can't justify them because even if they are verticle enough not to interfere then they are just there to try and look cool and that is lame. Form should follow function, and function is cool.

I think stingers get a bad rep when they are so long that they become inhibiting and useless. The idea behind them is good, but rarely do they get used for the original intended purpose.

That said, check out the 'stinger' on the front of Bart's new build:

It's functional, new, and looks good all at the same time. There's nothing ridiculous about it. I know it will probably change some but it's going to serve it's purpose. :) I dig it.

This is what I am working with right now. I think the stinger is at a 60 degrees from horizontal. I have not tied it in yet, but I am thinking of going to the engine cage to tie it as high as I can.

I really struggle with this, because I like the way GreenJeep's is done. The problem is that would make it exactly like Kevin Hawkins, and I want something a bit different. When Kyle finishes the blade on the front I know it will look good. If you look at how those bars come out from under the grill, and consider there's no wiinch up front, it's going to have a very distinct look.

We made one for my jeep. Took it out once then realized it was nothing but a look thing, it had no strong support, looked ridiculous so therefore I got rid of the piece of s***. I don't really hate the smaller ones but some are just to much. But to each his own whatever

What the heck is wrong with nerf bars!? I like roof mounted tires on Cherokees, it keeps the weight off the back where it does not need to be.

Don't forget that they all originated from ZJ owners.;) Nerf bars so you don't split your skirt when you get in, roof-mounted spares so there is ample room for your poodle and all the sh!t you just bought at Bloomingdales, and the stinger protects your fresh boob-job and/or rhinoplasty from front-end collisions. Stingers deflect shopping carts real well too.:p

Is thats why you drive a ZJ?

Just 'cause it's on the roof doesn't mean the weight isn't on the back of the Jeep still...

Nothing I guess. If you like big round chrome bars that hang down from your rockers and dent if you look at them, or a higher than necessary COG then I suppose there is no problem at all with either of them.

It performs perfectly for what I intend it to do. Enough power to pull a trail trailer, road worthy enogh to drive long distances, and capable enough to do the trails I intend for it to do.

Right. Besides, who says having weight in the back is necessarily a bad thing? Maybe I'm biased because I've gone over forwards but it helps balance out the front heavy XJ/ZJ and NOT having weight up top is ALWAYS a good thing.

The weight distribution on a Cherokee is 53/47, exactly the same as a stock CJ8. And since when you are climbing any more weight on the very back takes traction off the very front, or you probably knew that already.
