no matter how high a rig is lifted.. you cannot say that a tire on the roof won't add to the COG in a negative way

The weight distribution on a Cherokee is 53/47, exactly the same as a stock CJ8. And since when you are climbing any more weight on the very back takes traction off the very front, or you probably knew that already.

And the exact opposite effect on decents--or you probably knew that already. Even if you have the tire centered on the roof, if you're on a big climb a percentage of that weight is going to be transfered to the back anyway. Besides, the tire out back would make it like what, a 52.6/47.4 weight bias then lol. I'm sure thats going to hold you up. Weight up top is 10x's more noticable.

I guess it's personal preference in the end. I'll take weight out back over weight up top any day, twice on the next day, and three times on any other day after the 3rd sunday from winter solstice.

I'm pretty sure I'll die before I personally see any evidence that the weight bias caused by a rear mounted spare tire actually prevented a 4000-5500 lb vehicle from climbing something.

Just my oppinion.

Absolutely has an s and your in this context is spelled you're.

You also missed a gaggle of punctuation and began a sentence with "and", which is awful. AWFUL! ;) ;)

The APA just had a heart attack!

now that i think about it... a stinger would really help counter balance a tire out back or mounted on the roof when on uphill climbs!

Doh! Sami beat me to it.

Cherokeester, if you haven't already, fab up a front limiting strap if you're worried about losing front end traction on big climbs. Trust me, it makes a huge difference--especially if you have long arms.

I have been thinking about that for some time. I do have an atv winch I am not using for anything.

But the ATV winch would mess up your front/rear weight bias ;)

I think for most non-buggies, a winch isn't necesssary to use for a limiting strap. On my last 3 ZJ's I've had a strap that goes from center axle to a motor mount with about 2" or so of slack. I had the axle mount break once on my buggy and I couldn't believe the difference. I could walk Rock Pile with it, and without it I had to hammer it to get up.
