What ideas have you got? I'm not getting anywhere with the methods I know.

Claw hammer

mild cursing

Pry bar

Judicious cursing

I'm about to try the winch with a snatch block to the SuperDuty but wanted to know if there are better methods (I.E. less dangerous).

I'm gonna run a rag through the ring pinion. I just saw a thread on PBB about that. I think I've done that before, but don't remember the results.

Run a rag through it? IE, stick it between the teeth and spin the gears?

I just fought one last weekend. I pushed a chain through and around the carrier on the one side and about 15 feet outward and bolted it to a broke rear shaft I had and made the world's first getto slide hammer. About 10 hard ass pulls with the weight of the shaft and the chain swinging and it popped free. Then the next weekend I just used a spreader, like buttering bread baby:D

I tried that earlier in the evening.......

red 'shop rags' aren't quite enough. I had to commandeer an old dishtowel for some bulk. Popped it about half way out and I could pry on the axleshaft opening to get it the rest of the way.

For you or the r&p??? heheh

I used a pry bar and a big pipe. Popped out with a judicious application of force.... and broke the pry bar.

Of course, I wasn't concerned about reusing the gears.

take a piece of heavy chaing 3/8 or better wrap it through the carrier then "snap it" taking the weight off then dropping the weight of the chain as you pull. give it a few tugs and it'll pop right out.

The rag trick worked on my stubborn carrier after every other method failed.

you may have do do it a few times, bit it will come out.
