Suburban 2500

Does anyone know why Suburban 2500 started making them with a lower tow rating starting in 2007. 2006 and older can tow 12,000lb where a 2007 can only tow 9400lb and the 2008 7400lb...according to MSN auto info.

We are looking for a suburban to tow our trailer which is 11,000lb fully loaded and carry our family of 5....

In the older suburbans there was an option for the 8.1 engine that upped the towing capacity. 2006 was the last year for the larger engine option. Here are the numbers I found from edmunds.com for the 3.4 ton suburbans

2006 - 9900# or 12000# (6.0 vs 8.1 engines)
2007 - 9700#
2008 - 9700#
2009 - 9600#
2010 - 9600# (chevy.com verifies that number)

I don't know specifically, but the tow rating is always based on the lowest rating of frame, hitch, axle(s), suspension, transfer case, transmission, brakes, wheels, and tires. Could be any one of those components or all of them that are lighter duty.

It could be something like that but also by lowering the rating they're making ppl tow safer loads and making it safer for them to. But anyone's guess is as good as mine:D
