Summer 4x4 Safari Triathlon

EZ and I (and possibly U4) are discussing a 4x4 Triathlon this summer in Aug or Sept. 15-20 team cap. Each team 2 rigs, 2 people per rig. Several different skill events will be chosen from, with much strategy involved. Location and actual skill events will be consistent with stuff you've seen in the rags.

More details will be forthcoming as we line up sponsors.

We are looking for:
Volunteers (need about 25)
Competitors

Please contact me or EZ if you are interested (and committed)

Yup, this is an event that we have been kicking around for some time and looks like we can do it this summer. Imagine a super event, something as cool as UROC.....something that tests man against machine, man against stopwatch, man against man...well you get the idea. Similar in some ways to the tough truck comp but this one is for well rounded people, not only are good rigs needed but also mental capacity, strategy, planning, teamwork.

In case you don't know, a Safari Tirathlon (similar to the Camel Trophy in many ways) is a vehicle based contest, or race, where team mates compete against other teams at (in our case) ten events of skill and teamwork. Many events are timed courses, some are based on skill alone. Navigation is an inherent part of the event; you will have to use map reading skills and/or compass/GPS skills to find the 10 courses. The events we are considering could be:

A rockcrawling course, (NASTY, like UROC)
Canoe race
Bridge building/get your rig over a ditch using two logs
Vehicle extraction/winch use, etc.
Target shooting
Mt. Bike/run/hike
Mud pit
Log drag
First Aid
Vehicle Diagnosis
Tire rotation
Navigation

It could be a two day event but more than likely a one day balls out race of death and carnage in a location yet to be determined but will more than likely be in an alpine setting. We will need some volunteers, but also some sponsors, etc. This will attract national attention and could very well be featured in the 4x4 rags, etc. (We will seek nat'l press.)

Who wants to compete?

Listen up, boys and girls! Are your backcountry 4x4 adventures more than just rockcrawling? Can you handle a rifle/GPS/winch? Or paddle a canoe without falling in? Do you take pride in your McGuyver skills? Then put your teamwork and trail skills to the test and see if you've got what it takes!

Event date: Sept 12-13 (friday evening to sat afternoon)
Registration limit: 20 teams
Registration deadline: June 30
Entry fee per team: $100 (tentative, could change)
Teams consist of 1 rig, 2 persons (extra passengers allowed with seatbelts)
Space permitting, July registrations will be $120 (tentative)

Primary events: technical trail section, shooting, canoeing, navigation, winching, etc.

Secondary events: bwahahahhahahahahahahha:D :D :D

Req'd equipment: Trail rig w/ roll cage or steel hard top, winch, GPS, hi-lift, fire ext, first aid, seatbelts, licensed or ohv sticker, canoe (we will likely have canoes available to rent)

Recommended equipment: 33's and lockers, trail tools, spare parts, etc.

Once the event starts, teams must be completely self contained; if you break, and you (and/or other competitors) can't get it going, then that is the breaks (pun intended). Plan accordingly.

Info page will be up soon at www.u4wda.org

Speedy Vic.....yes we need volunteers, send me a PM with your email address we'll put you on the Utah Trophy Challenge email list.

Spencer..........

read the FAQ. Your entry fee covers campground spot, and 3 meals for the day for you and your navigator ($50/ person). It also goes toward the prizes and everything necessary to run the event. Go to the U4WDA page again, read the rules/FAQ's. You aught to check out

http://www.safaritriathlon.com/ or
http://www.tennesseeoffroad.com/files/torc_2003/index.htm

Each of these events are three days and cost over $300 to enter. Our event will only be one day plus the night before, not so much of a time committment since this is our first event.

So I take it that either:

a. You are not manly enough to enter,:D
b. you are scared
c. Too fat
d. can't shoot/afraid of guns
e. Can't swim
f. Can't drive
g. Too lazy
h. You are a chicken? :D boc boc boc!!!

Just kidding Spence. You have three months to find a buddy and enter the non-rockcrawling competition of the summer........this will be seriously cool. Everyone will walk away from this thinking day-um, that was killer! I can't wait till next years event!!

I would love to be on a team with any of you Yahoo's! I just don't have a rig that is up to the course, yet.

If anyone has the wheels, I have the GPS, and the will to do this thing. I may even have a line on a canoe.

I am sure we talked about this before but does the rig have to be street legal?

nevermind I answered my question...
