Just heard on the radio that a body in Wyoming fitting her description was found. Can't find anything yet on the local news websites yet. DJ commented that the body also fit the correct age of decomposition for when Susan disappeared.

Totally unsubstantiated but I heard 3 weeks ago (we were supposed to drop some mines in search of her body) and again just last week, that police were getting very close to some major action on her case. Ie they knew where to look or were ready to make an arrest?

LARAMIE, Wyo. - Investigators in Wyoming are trying to identify a woman's body found on a ranch northeast of Laramie. Detectives say the woman was in her 30s, about 5 feet tall with short, light brown hair. It appears she died sometime between last fall and this spring. Detectives do not think the woman went missing from Laramie or the surrounding counties.

Dec 6 was the last time she was seen alive

Dec 7 she was reported missing.

I remember that it was an unsually cold week where temperatures were sub zero making his camping trip in his car with the kids very odd. And from memory there was not a lot of snow on the ground making it possible for his mini van to make it to places like Simpson Springs

A minivan could make it most places in Wyoming as long as I-80 wasn't closed for weather conditions. The ground is relatively flat and frozen for the majority of winter, and they don't get much snowfall.

I've always said they should be looking in the opposite direction from Simpson Springs.

Apparently you have never been to larimie, i lived there for 3 years and they get twice the snowfall that we do...i remember takin the sleds out for thanksgiving, and as for simpson springs when she went missing there is no possible was a mini van could get out there the snow drifts were three feet high....i know as i was out there chasing coyotes once again.

What makes you think that the minivan drove her anywhere? My bet is he wasn't alone on executing this.

I am still remembering that this all went down right at a very cold snap and before any substantial storms, and then there was a big storm that came in the night of the 7th that made it impossible to see any tracks. He could have driven a mini van about anywhere that night. I have been searching for a history of snowfall but have not been able to find anything yet.

EDIT - Found it

use the "Preliminary Monthly Climate Data" option then you can see there was basically zero snow fall in november and nothing until after the body was hidden (er... I mean she ran away). So a mini van could have made it to simpsons springs without snow drifts.

...as said probably down some old mine shaft

Which is very said because professional mine exploration groups (MU and GRE) which I am involved with had been absolutely road-blocked by parties involved to the point we have had to call of planned searches. To make matter worse many of the mines targeted by our group are scheduled for reclamation this year and next, meaning they are going to doze, plug, cement and bury the entrances without ever executing any form of a search. The group (Mojave Underground) was called to assist in the search of a missing girl in California, working with the local sheriff and search and rescue, the cooperation in Utah is less than par.

Article on the called off search:

Even more of a kicker, we were not even going to drop the mine, rather lower a specially built camera system down the portal.
