If there are any nicks or scratches on the rollers it will shred a rope fairly quickly. Also, depending on the design of the rollers, it is possible to pinch the rope between the rollers and the frame of the fairlead. Both are bad.
If it were me, I'd definitely run an aluminum or plastic hawse-style fairlead (I currently have an alum. one from Summit Machine.)
It's worth it to not have to worry about ruining your brand new rope...
