I bought my cruiser from a lady in Virginia, sold a previous cruiser to a guy from Louisiana. It can work out, but I would hate to fly out somewhere and find out the vehicle was not as advertised. Maybe try and get a local mud member to stop by and check it out for you? Alternatively, offer to pay to have a local mechanic do an inspection, compression testing, etc. I would also be wary of heavily modified rigs driving weird or having other similar issues.

Good points!

it's got my favorite upper control arms on it. Mine was nearly identical (but with 110k) and it sold for $17k. I think that's a decent price. With 33s you're not going to get fantastic mileage, but it looks pretty cool. The only caveat I have is that the sunroof eats up a lot of your available interior headroom.

Also, see if you can get some pics of the driver's seat, that's usually where the wear is on the leather.

And there's no way he's getting 17 mpg in that (or 20 stock).

What MPG would you expect?

Fortunately I am short!

Me too, but even I almost hit my head. My passengers were always complaining about it. If possible, I'd recommend avoiding the sunroof, since it affects all passengers. Even worse if you have an overhead DVD player like I did.

I'd guess 13-14 with 33s and a big lift. I got 15-16 with a 1.5" lift and 32s.

One other rig to check out is the GX470. Same bones as the v8 4runner (same engine, tcase, trans), only with more ceiling height, and a single swing out door with no roll-down window. The roll-down window was SUPER handy, so that made me lean to the 4runner.

How are the LX470s to modify? Same as 4Runner?

Any idea how real world MPG compare for the two?

DOH! I'm an idiot. I typed "LX470" I meant to type "GX470." Same motor, different models.

The GX470s have an air suspension (I can't remember if that's ALL GX470s or just some). From my research, the air suspension seemed to quit working around 140k. They're expensive to fix, so most people end up ripping it out and sticking coils and shocks in there. See this thread (which is what reminded me to suggest these in the first place anyway): http://www.rme4x4.com/showthread.php?109810-Toyota-GX-470-Help-a-Super-Duty-guy-out

Real world MPG should be the same as a 4runner. It's slightly heavier (due to better soundproofing and a slightly taller interior), but mileage should be tons different. You can always go to http://fuelly.com to see real-world MPG numbers on any car.
