TBI High Idle

I have a Howell TBI set up on my 86 258 CJ7 and have had a high idle problem since the day I installed it. When I say high idle I mean that (I have and auto trany) when you go from reverse to drive the rpm's jump to 1300++ and hold there for a while before slowly coming back down to 800. This happens every time I go from a drive gear to a neutral gear the rpm's jump high and hang there for a while.

I have: swapped out the ignition to a HEI DUI
adjusted it beyond the end of time
talked with Howell a billion times (worthless)
replaced the IAC
sprayed can after can of carb cleaned to see if it had a vac leak.
replaced and sealed the TBI and adapter gasket

It seems to run worse when it is cold outside.

And I'm just bummed about this whole set up...

The Jeep has tons of power, runs great except the idle...

Please, input????

I'm SURE this isn't a good thing to hear, but Russ's CJ7 acted VERY similarly. Didn't get that great of mileage either. Howell didn't seem to be a lot of help.

If it'd help, I'd be glad to bring over my 5.7L so you could compare gadgets and whatnot?

Yep, does get poor fuel millage. At this point I would never recommend Howell Injection, but that is just from my experience. I have read many treads of people loving them.

If you think back, Jeff's ran like this too. I dont know of any Howell that ran good. Then again, you don't really seem to hear people talking about when their Jeep is running good.

well after some messing around... looks like the IAC is returning really slow. I have searched and it looks like a common problem.

Now to find a ghetto fix. :D
