While this has to mainly do with single track, it may apply to other routes. From an email:

Just wanted to send out a reminder about the wet trail closure currently in effect up AF canyon for all uses except hiking. The gates for the Alpine Loop opened today, but the trails are currently under closure and even if they weren't they are in no condition to be riding. There are still major patches of snow that are 2-6 feet deep on most of the trails and super wet conditions. Just one pass through will cause major damage with the wet conditions.

Please make sure to pass this message on to others so that people avoid tickets, causing damage to your favorite trails and making hours and hours of work to repair the damage. The lower elevation and front country trails, like the Bonneville Shoreline trail, are a better option until the trail closure is lifted.

We walked down to the turnpike on South Fork Little Deer Creek #252 that so many of you helped build last year, it is in great shape, the water is flowing under it just as planned. Thanks for all your hard work to make that project a major success.

Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend!

I'm really glad to see them taking this approach. This is what they need to do every year (keep the trails closed for a few extra weeks).

I was looking to see what trails this affected, since there's ZERO specificity from Cheryl. The UWC NF website indicates that the gate 1/2 mile up the north fork road is still closed. Meaning, none of the 4x4 routes off 085 are accessible. Good! Finally.

That's good news. I bet the trails get more damage this weekend than on any other weekend through the season. Between being so busy and still being muddy.

This is the next step to us finally being able to build "shoulder" gates on the trails, to keep people off the trails when they are most vulnerable.

Now if people just obey the gates, and don't try to find ways around them.

The canyon itself is open. Trails are not open to protect from the amount of rain and snow received over the last couple weeks. I doubt the trails are even passable right now with the amount of snow up there.

Could we place a minefield along the edge of the trail that would only kill people for a little while? When they wake up, they'll realize what an a-hole they've been. I'm working on a gun that would do the same thing... patent pending.

We were up there on Tuesday and the area around the washed out bridge entering Mineral Basin has quite a bit of damage from people going around it. There is a Road Closed sign right at the bridge and a park ranger stationed there that day as well. Water has come way down and you can easily walk across it if you wanted it.

MEG and Forest Lake trails are open and in good shape all the way up.

MEG does have some run off damage when you get up into the basin, but nothing major and its easily avoidable while staying on the main trail.

We crossed the river 15 feet up from the washout... I didn't tear anything up

:greg: I just had to post these two comments together
