Texting & driving in Utah

The new law, which took effect in May, penalizes a texting driver who causes a fatality as harshly as a drunken driver who kills someone. In effect, a crash caused by such a multitasking motorist is no longer considered an “accident” like one caused by a driver who, say, runs into another car because he nodded off at the wheel. Instead, such a crash would now be considered inherently reckless.

It's sad that we actually need laws to keep people from doing stupid ****.

The sad part is, laws for this **** already exist. Even worse is none of these laws are enforced, or enforceable?(SP):mad2::mad2:

I predict that in the future the police will not use lights and sirens, they will just send a text message telling people to pull over.

HA HA

That was a joke...

I honked my horn at the cop that almost hit me while on his phone. He isn't immune to me telling him, "I don't like your driving!"

SLCPD are not allowed to talk on their phone while driving and if one of their officers is caught doing this its a serious offense.... and I think that more police agencies are going the same way....

I was heading to Layton to pick up my kids for the weekend from the ex when i was driving on I-15 thru bountiful i about got sideswiped by a American fork police car the officer was in full uniform and yakking away on HER phone:rolleyes: She was so tied up on the phone she couldn't even drive and didn't even know her light bar was on (and no she wasnt going anywhere for an emergency because she was in no hurry when we got stuck in traffic) . Im still wondering why a AF cop was clear up there:confused: Then on the way home just about got it again by a lady from Idaho who thought she didn't need her hands on the wheel to drive because she needed both for texting so she was using her knee to drive at 80mph:eek::ugh:

I had a guy doing the same thing, texting and driving with his knees. He ended up driving in my lane. Since my doors are always off I'm not afraid to talk to someone and I said loudly "you are in my lane!" he was so shocked that there was someone around him. He was driving at 50mph but as far as he was aware he was the only one on the road.

I was feeling like a nice guy that day, but I think behavior like that is inconsiderate. Am I a jerk if I call the business they represent and tell them how their advertising is going?

The other day this lady changed lanes into the side of my truck in the middle of an intersection, you guessed it she was.... no actually she wasn't texting or talking on the phone.... some people are just retarded and shouldn't be driving anyway, and some people can txt and drive just fine.

Shane almost dominated anyone driving like a fool while texting, or on their phones, on the way to Price one weekend. I believe he made sure to slow down too two of them, roll down his window and tell them to pull over. :D haha. Well one was on a motorcycle just driving like he was god, but still. hahaha.

Hate to be the bad guy here but this just screams "mommy state" to me. :spork: Is it possible to enforce without a request to the phone company? (I was making a phone call officer). Do we need another law? Is it ok to be swerving in traffic as long as you're not texting? (ask my neighbor Dell about this one link)

Seems like a rather pointless law to make the masses feel like the legislature is doing something.

It is stupid. It's stupid that we have these laws and even more stupid that people text while driving. It's a no win.
