As we prepare to celebrate Veterans Day, I cannot help but to think of not only friends who have served and have lost, but also family members. Both of my grandfathers, 6 great-uncles, 3 uncles, my oldest brother, and myself have had the honor of serving this country. Among those, one grandfather received the bronze star, one great uncle the purple heart, another great-uncle a POW, and my dad's youngest brother died in the Marines after 13 years of service. I am grateful to them for leading the way and influencing the lives of our family and many others.
Not a day goes by that I don't think of the camaraderie and trust I shared with my fellow soldiers, feelings seldom found or felt outside of military service. Thank you to all who have and still do sacrifice your time, separation from family, and potentially your own life to keep this country safe.
