As we prepare to celebrate Veterans Day, I cannot help but to think of not only friends who have served and have lost, but also family members. Both of my grandfathers, 6 great-uncles, 3 uncles, my oldest brother, and myself have had the honor of serving this country. Among those, one grandfather received the bronze star, one great uncle the purple heart, another great-uncle a POW, and my dad's youngest brother died in the Marines after 13 years of service. I am grateful to them for leading the way and influencing the lives of our family and many others.

Not a day goes by that I don't think of the camaraderie and trust I shared with my fellow soldiers, feelings seldom found or felt outside of military service. Thank you to all who have and still do sacrifice your time, separation from family, and potentially your own life to keep this country safe.

Thank you for supporting. Most don't understand everything we give up to serve. It is a choice we make and I have loved most if it. I would say the hardest part is my family getting "old" back home and I cannot be there. I do miss my mother and father. I have 2 nieces that are almost teenagers that I have probably only seen 5 or 6 times in their entire life. It has been a long time since I had a chance to visit. I will be there for Christmas though.

Don't forget about the spouses. My wife has to endure the exact same separation from family that I do.

I was single throughout my deployments, but I watched what my brother's family went through and what our parents endured. Two sons in the Army will age your parents, and me being the baby made my mom worry constantly. But I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Jack,
you are a veteran of the Korean war; one of the most difficult periods in American military history. Having served in Korea, i can tell you that the older generation still very warmly appreciates the USA! THANK YOU
