Most I know including myself keep extra rounds in storage, because we know we will have to defend ourselves against those who are not prepared. And there is an "H" in neighbors....

Im with you, I was kidding...my nieghbors are cool..but weve had this discussion and I argued to them that there food storage is useless unless they can hide it or protect it from the Un-prepared.

who needs a food storage when your LDS niegbors are for gun control.

Senator RC Soles is for gun control too ;)

I wouldn't count on gun control advocates not having a gun just as I wouldn't count on all LDS members have food supplies. In my neighborhood it might be me with the food and the LDS neighbors with the guns. Of course if you've met my neighbors you would realize what 'prepared' means, ie a 100k rounds of ammo arriving on a pallet or a 10 pack of WASR's isn't an uncommon or even startling site around these parts lol.

(Yes, I have awesome neighbors)

I don't really get the history behind the zombies and troll thread stuff, but food storage is a great way to plan for the unexpected. I work on commission, try to have money reserves and food reserves. When months are lean we use it, when sales are good we add to it. It may be a loss of a job, poor health issues causing no income or lots of debt, hell it could be a natual disaster. Either way its a great idea. That's my wifes favorite isle in the store.

When you look at the Gov do you have faith in them to save you or even expect it? I hope not. A good plan is way better than no plan and panic.
ey had better be gone because most of them are well armed.

My sentiments exactly.

Also, you have to admit the wal-mart marketing was fantastic!!! That is the greatest thing about this whole thread. Wal-mart just needed to add some of those creepy rapture paintings for the complete package......

Hey Goat, I think you just found the perfect painting to hang above our bed...

These same people who hoard 2 months of food have 0 dollars in their savings account...talk about being prepared....Dave Ramsey, anyone?

One time I got snowed in outside Chicago...at a truck stop, after two days of the interstate and local highways being closed the local stores shelves were empty...Made a hugh impression on my mind. Im not going to be one of those losers that was on TV after Hurricane Katrina blaming the President cause my kids out of formula.

How do you know what is their savings accounts?

On that note, which will go further when stores are being looted and help is 3-4 days out due to a massive earthquake. A modest savings of a few thousand bucks or few weeks worth of food?

Edit: People go insane when panic sets in. Any one remember the police strikes in Canada, our civil level headed neighbors to the north? Within hours stores were being looted. What happened in Katrina? What happened in LA? Think SLC will be much different when panic ensues?

Money aint gonna get you squat in an emergency when thieves are in the streets.

When 911 was blasting over every form of media, bottled water and can goods were flying off the shelves here in Utah, similar stories in other states too.. An event that didn't even have a direct impact on us shot gas prices up and made a noticible impact on our stores. What happens when an earthquake rocks the Wasatch Front or a small volcano works over Idaho? I'm not advocating you all need to have months worth of food/water, etc but a weeks worth would have made situations like Katrina far more bearable for all.

Ultimately its our own discretion to plan, but I can tell reading through this thread which ones I would want as neighbors and which ones will start their Sunday night rant threads about how the government isn't helping them fast enough

Speaking of, does everyone have a backup plan for accessing RME in event of a widespread power outage or catastrophe?
