The Flag

This might sound like a dumb question but is there any type of laws on the way the American Flag can be hung? The reason why I ask is I have a asian family that lives a couple of blocks from me and they have the American Flag Hanging Upside down, they have had it this way for about a year or so. Everytime that I drive by it seems to bother me even more.

Upside down?

I think that flying the flag upside down used to signify that you needed help. I am wondering if its a mistake or a statement they think they are trying to make. Either way you can do with the flag whatever you like, even if it is tasteless.

that is kinda what I thought but I wasn't sure so I figured I would ask.

I think people are doing it to say they disagree with the war in Iraq.
They should hang out a flag that says "I disagree with the war in Iraq", cuz the upside-down flag thing just makes them look stupid.

I agree. I think there should be restrictions about how the flag is flown, and if you don't follow them, you pay the consequences. Sometimes freedom of speech goes a tad too far IMO.

The people who fly the flag in this way are looking for a response from people. I liken it to flipping someone off to their face. They are lucky a rock hasn't flown through the window yet. (Not saying it is justified, but it seems to be what they are asking for.)

but that goes against what the flag stands for. i dont like the way some people use the flag but i dont thing you should force somebody to respect an object either.

You forcing someone to fly the flag rightside up degrades the flag more than the dumbass mistreating it

I disagree, I don't think it degrades the flag, but maybe what America is about.

I am all about freedom of speech, thought, religion, etc. But I do not think people should be able to attempt to get a response from others by openly showing disrespect to something they hold so sacred.

The only flame you're getting from me is the bbq being lit up cuz I'm grilling you some steak. I totally agree with you. If people complain so damn much and they don't like how it's run here, get the hell out. We sure don't want you. :mad2:

Wow. This thread is retarded.

First of all - an upside down flag is a sign of Consitutional distress.

2nd of all - people shouldn't have to leave the country because they don't agree with your point of view. It's not your country, it's Our Country.

3rd of all - Just because people don't like the government, doesn't mean they don't love the country.

Let's see how this stirs the pot. :p

In our town there is a guy who does this as well (hang the flag upside down in his front window). He also writes many letters to the editor as to how displeased he is with the government and how it is all Pres. Bush's fault that everything is the way it is. Honestly it sickens me. I don't mind freedom of speech within it's boundaries, I am against people using that freedom of speech to degrade the very country I love. If they don't like it here, do something to change it. This type of awareness is not positive awareness and it does nothing but makes others think how big of an idiot you are to be using your freedoms so loosly. I'd love to see other nations put up with this type of disrespect.

If this keeps on going on we will lose these freedoms. This person was subjected to many broken windows. It wasn't until he got shot at with a low power pellet gun through that very window that he decided that his point wasn't getting across the way he wanted it to. This was evident in one of his recent letter to the editors.

Actually; I am saying it, if you don't like it get out. Find another place where it will be better accepted. France is a good place to go whine and do nothing to change the situation. :D

Yesterday I was picking up my son from Kindergarten and the neighbor girl ran outside and started lowering the flag outside the school. I stopped and helped her before it hit the ground, I couldn't just stand there as many others were doing just watching it get lowered and almost falling to the ground, I had to do something. I explained to her the signifigance of the flag and why we don't let it hit the ground (as explained to me in Boy Scouts). Then I helped her fold it. Apparently her "flag partner" was busy playing with his new PSP to come help her get the flag.

I might not be a patriot but I can tell when someone is taking things I consider sacred for granted. If I could have joined any branch of the armed forces I would have. Unfortunately.. they won't take asthmatics.

A few thoughts on the "if you don't like it, leave, get out, move to France" attitude towards people who disagree with you.

I am assuming that you probably had a few complaints during the 8 year administration of Clinton. It is too bad that you didn’t move to England (or one of the other handful of countries who currently support the War in Iraq). You disagreed with the government, why didn't you get out?

If everyone who opposed Clinton's policy's left the country, there probably wouldn't be a war to oppose and the flags wouldn't be hanging upside down.
