Anyone seen this? I thought it was a great movie.

"An intense portrayal of elite soldiers who have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world: disarming bombs in the heat of combat. When a new sergeant, James, takes over a highly trained bomb disposal team amidst violent conflict, he surprises his two subordinates, Sanborn and Eldridge, by recklessly plunging them into a deadly game of urban combat. James behaves as if he's indifferent to death. As the men struggle to control their wild new leader, the city explodes into chaos, and James' true character reveals itself in a way that will change each man forever. Written by BWR Public Relations
When SSgt William James joins Bravo Company in Iraq, they have a month or so left in their tour of duty. He's a bomb disposal expert and he is replacing Sgt Matt Thompson, a long-standing member of the team who was recently killed disposing of an improvised explosive device. To say that James loves what he does doesn't quite capture the emotional high he experiences when he gets to do what he does best. For his fellow squad members however, including Sgt JT Sanborn and Spc Owen Eldridge, they just want to survive the few days of duty they have left. James risk taking however drives them all to the edge. Written by garykmcd
US Army Staff Sergeant Will James, Sergeant JT Sanborn and Specialist Owen Eldridge comprise the Bravo Company's bomb disposal unit currently stationed in Baghdad. James is the tech team leader. When James arrives on the scene, Bravo Company has thirty-nine days left on its current deployment. It will be a long thirty-nine days for Sanborn and Eldridge whose styles do not mesh with their new leader. James is a renegade for who the thrill of the dismantlement seems to be the ultimate goal regardless of the safety of his fellow team members, others on the scene or himself. On the other hand, Sanborn is by the books: he knows his place and duty and trusts others in the army to carry out theirs as well as he. And Eldridge is an insecure soldier who is constantly worried that an error or misjudgment on his part will lead to the death of an innocent civilian or a military colleague. While the three members face their own internal issues, they have to be aware of any person at the bomb sites, some of who may be bombers themselves."

this movie has been in theaters on a small scale, and has come back to Utah at the Broadway Theater.

I highly recommend this film. Its amazing how well the directed portays the suspense of the job.

I put this up there with 'Blackhawk Down'.. Not as good, but up there.

Go see it!

This is out on video, kids, so get to it.

I saw some of this on a wicked bootleg copy in.. August, in Afghanistan... surprised that it was out in theaters here in December.. I was stoked to see the whole thing.
Pretty effective cinematography, as far as using the filming itself to build tension. I dug that. The director did the excellent "Near Dark", as well as "Point Break" and "Strange Days", all of which everyone should like at least a little bit on principle alone.
"Hurt Locker" stays pretty tight to the characters, and does a pretty good job of making you aware of the tension inherent in urban warfare. There is no way in hell I'd want to be defusing car bombs in the middle of 5-story apartment buildings, too many windows!
I wouldn't call this an "action" movie per se, but there is a good amount of tension, excitement, etc. I liked that none of it was overblown and ridiculous... just realistically matter-of-fact and visceral.

Anyway. Perhaps owing to the relatively small scale of the movie (centered on just a few people for the whole film-- not a bad thing in the least), this had a decidedly smaller feel than your average Hollywood war movie. I think that's a really good thing, YMMV.

94 Tacoma points, and 3 thumbs up. Check it out. ;)

I thought it was stupid.
Maybe because we don't operate the way it was portrayed. Just my 2 cents and most people will probably like it. Although the IDF EOD just pull up in a piece of Sh*t car and throw the IED or UXO in their trunk and drive away.

Redboxed it last night, and thought it was a damn fine movie. The desert sniper scene was a little a little weak, but still good. I'll consider it one of the better modern war movies I've seen.

That sniper scene was just stupid, in just about every way, which I won't detail so as not to spoil anything for people who havent' seen the movie yet.

On a related note, I think "Enemy At The Gates" might be favorite war movie yet. It was pro-sniper, anti-German, anti-Russian, and anti-war. :D

I liked parts of it but as a whole I really didn't like it. I don't like the guy in the lead role...there was always something that I didn't like about him as an actor so it ruined the movie for me.

I agree with Spencer on this one. Good parts but overall not one that stands out...infact I still need to finish the last 30 mins of the show (been needing to watch the last 30 mins for atleast the last month ;) )
