Very cool. I heard you were over there. What a life experience.

I'm struggling to put words together to define just that. We have a bit more ground to cover this next week, in the meantime we are getting a bunch of service done on the Cruiser. We racked up over 9000kms on the brand new VDJ79 in just one month

A rad 45 we spotted at a remote gas station... truth is these are everywhere but I liked this one enough to snap a pic.

Hovercraft tour we enjoyed on the Indian Ocean based out of Broome, Aus. Yes a hovercraft is on my 'must-have' list now.

Sorting through our provisions and fuel in Halls Creek following completion of the Canning Stock Route

A burned out Toyota Hilux along the Canning Stock Route. This is VERY common to see, the tall grass in the middle of the road can often catch fire or the spinifex can clog radiators and overheat causing fires. We saw burned out motos, Rovers, a JK, a few trailers and this Hilux. The area is so remote it just isn't practicle to remove them, thus there are burned out and broken down cars all over the outback roads, I lost count after the hundred mark.

My type of parking lot, 4x4 heaven!

I'm saving the best ones for my write-up, it will be more trip-oriented rather than eye-candy oriented

ARB HQ? :freak:

Great update Kurt, love seeing this stuff! That FJ45 with a trayback is awesome, someday I want to cut down a 40 and make one just like it.

ARB HQ? :freak:

Nope, that is just a standard store albeit a very busy and super well stocked one. I drove the new Sherpa II there after picking it up in Goulburn (where the canopy) was installed and we spent the next week taking it from a bone stock 4dr workmate to a world ready rig. It was an absolute blast getting to help them in the shop with the truck and spend time watching the way they operate their store. I visited 10-15 different ARB stores when I was here in 2009 but it was always an hour or so visit, this was fare more detailing and I was able to spend time with the manager as well as meet the store owner. They push out nearly 200 rigs a month, that could be anything from a bumper or suspension install to a full build like our setup. The shop manager is pushing for me to come spend 6 months on a work VISA learning their end of the market. It would be a great learning opportunity but not sure it would work out with my shop and life pursuits.

It is quite maddening, I've seen hundreds of thousands of Cruisers at this point and in some towns 50% or more of the towns vehicles are 7x/100/200 platforms, entire parking lots at utility companies full of 75 trucks, taxi's and police cars, all Land Cruisers. I'm not quite desensitized to spotting them but getting closer. We are now searching for the true rare beasts as our mission literally is to find an FJ28 and FQ15.

Thats a lot of burnt rigs! I imagine there wouldn't be much to prevent it once it got bunched up in the exhaust shields. Back in the day I had access to a great sand bar/fishing hole on the river by my house. The route was over a mile long with grass taller than my 79 with bottomless mud in some spots. I'd always double check the exhaust and such once I got to the spot for this reason. It wouldn't take much for it to go up in flames :ugh:

It was a concern of our teams, we had additional screens installed to the front grill of the vehicles to limit the amount of grass getting built up on the radiator. Even with that we spent a considerable amount of time, dusting, picking, brushing and blowing it out. The Toyota dealership told us their removal secret, a can of car cleaner and a match :D We joked about it on the trail but they literally do a quick 'blast' of flame to burn out the dry grass before it starts its own fire.

Update: We made our way from Broome to Alice Springs (Outback mecca) and down the Oodnadatta 4x4 Track to Mildura where we are staying tonight. We are eventually heading to Canberra to look at a Toyota FQ15 (uber rare) and then back to Melbourne to prep the E7 Cruiser for shipping to Africa. Nearly 4500 kms in the last 5 days and we have ~1200 kms left to go in our voyage.

More Aussie love.

A super rare Toyota Blizzard in a remote town along the Oodnadatta 4x4 route in central Australia. Turns out it is for sale, sadly I don't have a way to drive two Toyota's (Oodnadatta)

This is what car dealers should look like, white SUV's with bull-bars and snorkels. I stopped by this same dealer in 2009 and had a near similar attraction. (Alice Springs)

For the non-LC readers, a long wheelbase Zuk. Everywhere over here particularly in the outback and rural agricultural areas. (Cadell)
