The pix of Project "Hero"

Mine? No pics yet, maybe this week end. I was hoping to go play, but didn't get the exhaust done, or a tow rig.

It has been a WHILE. I had to fix/change the things that weren't what I wanted. I did not even touch it for almost a year!

first of all, SWEET RIG DUDE. what else is done to it? i have waggy d44's on my xj,. is that what those are, just with some trussing on the front? what else do you have planned? what is your total cost so far? just give me some specs.
i want my friend to buy this pos 4 cyl xj for 700 bucks so we can do that to it. i mean i am pretty ruthless with my xj anyways, taking the doors, hatch and practically everything else out of it. but it would be cooler if it was cheap as hell!

doors don't add any structural integrity that the rollcage doesn't make up for. that is if you tie it in the right places. xjs are just sheetmetal...thats it! i took out my interior paneling (plastic stuff) in the back and there is just a tiny layer of sheetmetal between the outside. IT'S NUTS! i just think it is crazy that after all the flexing i did, it never ruined the crappy unibody.

The unibody is what keeps the XJ under 3000lb curb weight. To give you an idea it weighs 1000lb less than a taurus. If it isn't fat it doesn't need to be as strong. 2nd, it is designed for properly and the design of the body gives it the rigidity it need while letting it flex without breaking. Separate frames are nice because everything is separate but the sub frame idea came from the carrage builders at turn of the last century. It is about time we took another look at that idea:D Frames make it easy to attach bumpers and stuff but it always results in a gravitationally gifted vehicle. If I have my numbers right a six cylinder 4door cherokee weighs somewhere around 700 lb less than a 4cyl wrangler.

Kindof ridiculus:confused:

and again....if people would read earlier posts, this particular vehicle will receive a full internal roll cage to bring up its rigidity to competetion standards.....competing repeatedly flexes and abuses uni-body vehicles. occasional offroad useage comapred to competition abuse is astronomical especially after repeated rolls.

BTW, the worst thing that was done to this vehicle as far as rigidity is the removal of windows. They add more than you would think. Not as much as a good cage of course;)

Correct. tempered glass urethaned in place is very strong indeed, untill the glass is broken. this thing was built extremely cheap, and was built to bash. It will prolly be a very good learning tool for Andy, as he will have no fear of ruining it whilst thrashing it, thus giving him good practice at sucking the seat with his sphincter!

ok mr. grass expert.... so which windows are glued in with urithane, the front one, and correct me if I'm wrong its laminated, the quarters are rubber gaskets, so is the hatch, and they be flexing with everything else.

and what do you mean by this you think the doors add "structural integrity"???? hanging out on ju to much?

I was under the impression that a cherokee with no doors, no hatch and no windows would be less rigid that a cherokee with all that stuff... maybe i'm wrong though:confused: (i know he plans on adding a roll cage) as far as hangin out on ju... i wouldn't touch that site w/ a 10 foot pole.
