Took the fam for a little snowshoeing at Jordan Pines up bcc today. We were still seeing rain at the s-curve, but the snow was pouring at the trail head with maybe 10" of fresh.

The kids are just getting the hang of it and were done after about an hour, so we didn't make it to the falls. Plenty of fun though. We should've thrown a tube in for the sledding hill!

Sad snowshoeing/avalanche fatality this weekend. Remember to check the avalanche forecast before going and be safe.

I read about that. We tried to go up last night and the road was closed.

Not only read the avalanche forecast, but understand what areas are prone to avalanches and stay off of them. Also, have the proper tools. The friends couldn't get to the girl because they didn't have the proper equipment.

I wonder where exactly this occurred. The avalanche supposedly carried her 80-90 yards, burrying her face-down in the river. I know of 3 rivers there, one near trail 040, one in the trainage at Granite Flats, and one below the reservoir.

Cannon said the slide was relatively short and narrow, extending roughly 80 yards, but was located on a steep hill. He said the location of the avalanche is not considered a back country or wilderness area but new snow in the area was wet and heavy.

is there a creek/river on the other side of the river, near the bowl where everyone sleds? Or I wonder if she was south of the reservoir, near the dam where everyone slides down.

I went out to Doughnut Falls today. Didn't need snow shoes but it was nice to get out.

The avalanche danger is getting worse as the day goes on. We're going to bail.

On a side note, i found out where that girl died up AF Canyon. It was on trail 40, right after crossing the bridge, along side the stream before it starts climbing up the canyon.
