We should put together a group & forum of trail patrol people here on RME anyways. It's something that's been in my mind for a while. If we can provide an outlet to somehow promote and educate people and get people to become proactive and trail patrol, that would be pretty cool. Could double as a patrol, education & rescue resource of sorts...? Let's get some gears turning.
I am an instructional designer, and I'd be happy to put together an instructional video/website/signage/flyers/stickers, whatever we need. I just need some subject-matter experts to help. I'd be happy to donate my time.
I also had this other crazy idea for a business idea, but since I suck at business, I'm offering to throw it out as service. I was thinking of filming each trail in Moab, then speeding it up in fast-motion, to make a 3-5 min video of each trail. So, for those people who either didn't have a guide, or had never done the trail, or don't know what's off-limits and what's not, they could see what to expect. We could also show optional bypasses, recommended lines to take, and off-limits areas. It'd be a huge undertaking, but I think a lot of people would like it. I guess we could sell it to help raise funds for out trails. I know I'd pay $30 for a dvd that shows all of Moab's trails in fast-motion so I could envision it before doing it. I've wanted to do the rubicon for ages now, but I don't really know what it's going to be like, which obstacles have bypasses and which don't, and what to expect. Something like that would be cool. Anyway, those are my crazy ideas. I think more like an educator than a businessman anyway.
Or I wonder if we could do a google earth tour of each trail, with pictures and notes regarding what is off-limits and what isn't. I'm open to ideas.
