What would you suggest. Thinking about a Honda 400ex or a Yamaha Warrior.
Whats your experience with the quads.
What would you buy?

What type of riding will you be doing? There's as many right answers as there are different terrains/ riding styles.

Trail riding/ ocasional dune riding. But I am trying to avoid a 2stroke.
And only looking to spend $3000 max for a used quad .Cant see my self buying one new for $5500- $6500. But if I could I would probably buy a new honda 450R.

In that price range, I would probably look for a 400EX. Decent power, and great suspension make it a good overall choice. It will be lacking power in the dunes, but would be great for high speed trail riding. Unfornately, the big four stroke boom hit recently enough that most of the bikes haven't depreciated that much yet. Check around for a Raptor, you may find one in the $4000 range. That would be a much better choice than an EX.

I love my 400ex. my wife rides a warrior, it lacks power at the dunes though. both machines are very nice, the ex is a lot more of a bike IMO. I love that new honda 450, seen them in action at the dunes, very nice, spendy, but nice..

Well I went and rode a Raptor and it was a beast. Lots of power and my buddy had wider A arms (nice in turns but hard to steer). But I think I will look for a 400EX. Thanks for the input

I had this warrior for 6 years and it would eat the 400 ex next too it speed wise but the 400 had alot better handling and jump alot better. Raptors in my opinion are the same way too heavy and clumsy. I don't care for 2 strokes they are only good for speed so you can't really put around on them. And noone has mentioned the the Z400 which is probably what will be my next bike :greg: or the kfx700

If you want to do trail riding also, I would go with the wolverine. From what I hear it is the same basic motor as the warrior, and could be the same if you change the flywheel and the cam. Out at 5 mile pass, my buddy with a 400EX was dragging the rear axle across everything. My other buddy with a wolverine does just fine with plenty of ground clearance, and even at the dunes he can hold his own. He can't make it up the steep side of sand mountain, but he can get up the right side.

I would suggest a dirt bike. You could find a WR426 for about what you are wanting to spend, and you wouldn't be disappointed in the trails or the dunes.
