Thinking of trying a new truck

So I'm not as bad as some with vehicles **cough** Tyson **cough** but I usually get bored with my vehicles at about 18-24 months. I'm right in that range on my current truck and I'm thinking about getting a new Raptor. What's people's, that have owned or have experience with them, opinions on them? My current truck is a 2016 TRD Pro Tundra with a 7" BSD lift and 37" tires. It's a fun truck and there really is nothing I don't like about it (well, sometimes I wish it were a little shorter) but a Raptor just seems like it would be a fun truck to have. I would have to tow a fairly small load (mine and my son's rzrs) quite often, do they do fine towing? Specs say they should handle that load without even flinching, is real world the same?

This is my current truck and the largest load I'd have to tow (and threads are always funner with pictures :D)

My neighbor bought a 2017 raptor. SAWEEET! Tows fine, insane fast, tons of fun bombing the trails.

Good to hear they tow fine. For some reason, I envision the suspension being too squishy to tow much.

I saw one towing a giant load of logs and it was squatting hard, but probably a half ton truck would squat like crazy too.
They make those half-captured airbag mounts if it was too bad.

I am glad I am not the only one that gets sick of vehicles even if they are really cool.

I have nothing to add to the conversation other than my son will probably come over so you can take him for a ride if you get a Raptor:)

Hey now, I’m January I will have owned my truck for 2 years. That’s the longest I’ve owned any vehicle and I’m almost 35. But like you I’m ready for something new. I’m looking at Kodiak’s and topkick’s. They’re not new. But they’d be great and different for towing my 5th wheel. I don’t want to daily drive a diesel anymore so I may get another s4 for that.

I have spent MANY MANY MANY hours inside a kodiak. 2 thoughts: Keep your chiropractor on speed dial. Anything besides flat pavement will break your back. Also, the air ride seat option is a must.. but only helps a little.

Wow, 2 years, I’m actually impressed. :D I told my wife if we had kept our trailer or gotten a new one I would have had to get one of the Kodak’s, etc to tow it. My wife loves the luxuries of the big trailers and I always hated towing the big trailers. Instead we bought a cabin :) problem solved.

I think I’ll go test drive a Raptor this weekend and see if I even like them. I don’t like how the F-150s drive but I’m hoping/expecting the Raptor to be a lot more fun to drive.

That bad? Even with air ride suspension and air ride seats? I can’t imagine it’s worse than blasting through the desert in my 1 ton unloaded. But I’ll definitely try it out before i buy.

Ours had 12’ heavy heavy snow plows to help soften the suspension a little, and I still felt every piece of ice, and every crack in the road.

Are you thinking of selling the Tundra, or trading? I will trade you my tundra plus the difference they will give you for yours over mine. Just a thought. I have a 2014 Platinum.

If I decide I like the Raptor, I'll probably sell vs. trading it in unless they give me a killer trade-in value. Trading has the tax offset benefit but I'm not in any rush to get rid of my truck so I'll probably sell so I can get more from it.

Well, went and drove one and I have to say, that is a fun truck. :D. I was ready to sign but they changed the price on me after we got to the table so I told them either honor the price that was on the vehicle or no deal. So, anyone know of a reputable Ford dealer that's not Larry H (well, the reputable rules them out anyways :) ) that wants to make a sale on a Raptor? :D

I'm going to be listing my truck for sale if anyone is interested. :)

My neighbor went to columbine Ford in Colorado to find someone that wasn’t charging way over msrp.

Interesting.... they're 45 min from me.

Many of the oil field guys around here go to Dave Smith in Idaho to buy their trucks. I think they have a set price of $500 over MSRP for any vehicle.

Thanks, I'll reach out to them. Honestly, for the Raptor, I know there's a premium and I expect to pay that. However, today, they had the MSRP sticker, then they had THEIR sticker with their adjustment and THEIR price. Cool, I'm ok with that. Then we got in to the table and THEIR price apparently wasn't adjusted enough so they wanted to change that price and add $15K to that price. They came down to only $5k above that price and I told them if that had been the price on that sticker, I'd pay it but I'm wouldn't pay anything more than what they listed as their price. Annoying but I wouldn't expect anything else from a Larry H dealership (and honestly I didn't want to buy from Larry H but it was the closest to me for a test drive).
