This ain't much but need info about Ophir

Well Thursday night, about 8 o'clock, I found this road about 1/4-1/2 mile from the east end of Ophir. The road went off to the right (south). I followed it for about twenty minutes, saw some deer, some cows (there was a salt lick up in there a ways), and then had to come home. I wish I'd have found it earlier. Anyway, does anyone know where that road goes? No pics, sorry. I took a couple of pictures of deer, but with my film camera and they are undeveloped as of yet.

It leads to a bunch of old mines and eventually over to Mercur, basically there are a lot of meandering roads out there :).. Take a look on Google earth

Okay. Thanks. Yeah I was thinking it might be heading towards Mercur, but didn't know if it ended up there. What about that road a little further east in Ophir Canyon--the road that leads up to the left, but now has a fence (which at the time I was there, looked like it had been run over)? I remember driving up that road a ways years ago in my Dodge Aries station wagon, then stopping and having lunch with the family. Is that private property now? Maybe it was then but nobody had bothered to fence it.

I belive it is private prop. also going towards Mercur you will run into gates before you get there as it has private prop on it as well.

Unfortunately, lots of private property and acess issues. For a couple years there had been some issues as to private property vs road access issue in the local paper (Tooele Transcript) now and then, but I have not heard anything recently.

Thanks, Houndoc. Do you know of any interesting roads over in the Stansburys?

None of the roads go all that far up due to the wilderness area, and terrian.

Some fun drives are Box Elder and Hickman canyons (both just south of South Willow). Hickman has a couple of little spurs, but neither road is difficult (although Box Elder can be very muddy in the spring.)

For those with motorcycles, you can ride the Stansbury Front Trail from Big Hollow to West Canyon, but only sections are open for AVs or full-size rigs.

The range as a whole is much better for hiking and horse back riding (had a very nice ride a week ago from Madina Flats to Willow Lake.)
