Ok, so today I'm talking to my wife's friend. She is asking about a sweet '59 Ford truck her uncle is giving them or something. She says it's impractical because it is against the law to have minors in the front seat of a pickup, her cousin had to sell his truck because of this etc etc it's a new law.

I say that can't be right, as it seems so ridiculously punitive and discriminates against pickups. Could UT actually have passed a law that retarded?

Please say no. And if anyone has the relevant code detailing what is and is not legal re: trucks and kids, please post up.

Thanks, cops, I appreciate the work you do. :D

Total bull.. In fact, if memory serves me correctly, 59 Ferd's didn't even have lap belts so they can't even get you for not wearing your strap on.

I thought it was bull too.

Hey! you're not a cop!!! LOL I was busted for not having a belt on in my old M725... which didn't have any belts. I fought the ticket and won... in Monticello. Didn't get out of the +5 speeding ticket though. :(

anyway. Anyone got the relevant code link???? I want to definitively inform this woman, she is using this as a reason to sell the truck..

Utahxjer: can you elaborate?? lol

Well... Since it's not a law, there isn't going to be anything explaining why it's not a law, know what I mean?

I actually think I heard that rumor somewhere a year or two ago, just a bad rumor. I think one problem might be that it is recommended to have your child seat in the rear seats, but if you don't have rear seats then you gotta use what you have.

On another note, I personally would want to have my kids in a car seat/seat belt, so I would install some belts on a older vehicle that didn't have them.

Utahxjer: hahah, I meant, do you have offhand the vehicular code sections that would relate hahh... I can search myself though. I think she'll just have to believe me.

truck has lap belts, which secure her 6yr olds' booster seat just fine.

BIGO: thanks for that number, I'll give them a call.
