Those rotten bastards

speaking of history, My friend has got about a billion historical texts. I don't know why I haven't mentioned that before. He had a small bookstore, stocked w/history, mostly. If you ever want to take a look, let me know.

I'd love to see them. I am primarily interested in pre-1900 world history books and US History books prior to about 1950. Does he sell any still?

why do you think Walmart can sell below every other retailer...because they dictate their margins

I have heard that Walmart's true business model actually has very little to do with margins. Although they do beat up their suppliers pretty bad it is usually to extend the account terms to 90+ days and to make it cheaper so the customer will buy more. Walmart makes the majority of its money off the float. They get near instantaneous payment for items, and then invest the money during the 90 days before they pay their vendors. This is much more lucrative for them and why they can afford to make extremely thin margins on most things.

Most key accounts are on 90 day terms with vendors. All accounts beat up on vendors to maximize their discounts. What Walmart has done better than any business is invest wisely in their infrastructure to maximize efficiency and minimalize costs. They have their own ships, trucking fleet and they pretty much know how much it costs to build everything in China. Vendors are free not to do business with Walmart.

Oh, man. That's pretty much what he's got. Let me talk to him and see what's up. I'm sure they are for sale, just a matter of where they ARE. ;)
