Do you have medical insurance? Should we open a donation fund to help with costs? Shoot I can donate!

Tonights update...

Her numbers are looking better, heart rate down more, blood pressure up more. Infection seems to be subsiding. But we weren't able to get her breathing tube out. She can breath fine when they reduced the pressure, but her throat is swollen. So we'll try it again tomorrow. Looking up, but still some distance to go...

Our insurance is pretty good, I don't anticipate any issues. Thanks for the offer. But I really believe our needs are being met for now. I might have some small issues coming into this next week but I'm OK for now.

Well the tube is out!! And she is talking and trying to ornery. But she stil needs rest. Considering just 3 days ago we were concerned about the next few hours, I feel pretty good right now. We hope to be in a regular room tomorrow. But will play it by ear. She is responding well to all treatment (and I believe thoughts and prayers really do help!!!). We are glad to see practically normal renal functions, and reduced white blood cell counts. And the vital signs are better with out the stress of the tube.

Thanks again so very much folks.

Shes doing pretty well for someone that was in bad shape just a few days ago. Shes still weak and sleeps, but she is talking and laughing a bit. I had some concerns that weren't an issue afterall. Thanks to all!!!

If you had the concerns then they were issues. Maybe not to everyone else but they were to you. It is good to hear that the thoughts and prayers did what they were intended to do. Good luck to your wife and I hope she continues to improve. Hang in there.

So, tonights update is pretty simple. Earlier this evening she was finally moved to a regular room. When we got in this morning she had already had breakfast, been out for a short walk and sat in her chair. During the rest of the day in ICU she had lunch, and plenty to drink.

As said before, I believe all our needs are met at this time. I do appreciate everyones thoughts and prayers. Thanks to all....

My next update I hope will be her coming home in a couple days.

I need to start reading the chit chat section more often. Roger, I only met you that one time at Little Moab, but when I first started reading this thread it was hard not to become emotional at just the thought of you losing someone so close to you. My dad had 2 bad experiences last year with injuries and a close family friend lost their daughter to cancer 2 weeks before her 8th birthday in August, so maybe I'm just a bit more sensitive to things than I used to be. And I have spent a fair amount of time in the hospital flat on my back myself. I live just a few blocks from the hospital, so let me know if you need anything at all. Cathy will be in my prayers, keep us posted.

My wife is home this evening. We are happy beyond words. Its been a rough week, but she is on the mend even if it takes a while. Quick recap. She had double pnuemonia (both lungs infected) with the most common bacterial infection. Almost everyone has this bacteria in your nose already (scary, huh?). The infection became septic (throughout her blood), and she began to have her kidneys shut down. Since the bacteria was the most common, it responded very well to broad spectrum antibiotics. Within hours of admission to the ICU she had a ventilation tube run down her throat and was heavily sedated.

Cathy responded well and rapidly to all treatment. The breathing tube came out on Saturday, and she was moved to a regular room Sunday. She was released today and will be on oxygen for a couple weeks while her lungs continue to heal. Inconvenient, yes... She also found out she has a couple blood clots in one leg and she will be on blood thinners for 6 months. 2 shots a day. Yes, she s home, but she still has healing to do.

I really want to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and kind and encouraging words. I was tired when I started this thread, and wasn't sure what the next hours would bring. Thank you everyone. And somehow, that just doesn't seem like enough...
