So some of you might remember, the last 2 years I worked as a shop teacher. In that time I bought and begin a huge build on a jeep project. Long story short, I was not offered a returning contract this last spring and was told with less than a week of school left that I did not have a job.
It was extremely late in the year and as a result I was kind of screwed when it came to openings. So over the summer I have worked pretty much everyday applying for jobs etc. In all I sent out over 40 applications. I got exactly 3 interviews.
In general education related jobs in Colorado were cut back just over 12% this year, add that to the 10% the year before and things were way more competitive this go around than they have ever been.
So after the entire summer of no luck, I went today to pick up the CDL test book and was going to accept a job driving truck. I have always held my CDL as my plan B. The only reason I held out so long was due to my retirement plan with education and once I get out, it will be almost impossible to get back in...
As I was getting my test booklet, I get a phone call from the local community college. after a small session of phone tag, I was offered a job. It keeps my retirement in place, it is identical in pay to my previous years salary and best of all I get to set my hours as needed as long as I get 40 hours a week. This means that we will have exactly 4 hours of day care a week... Best of all I am only 6 minutes from work and I get all holidays.
Needless to say it is a huge relief or both me and my family. While I have always enjoyed driving truck it was something fun for the summer, at least now I have a set schedule and get to be with my kids and hunt and fish etc.
Oh and I also get to keep the jeep I started to build. If I had not recieved a job by august 15th the entire project was going to get sold out.... So keep your eye open I will be building it soon....
Thanks to those who have supported me here....
