Time to upgrade my Verizon Wireless Phone

It is now time to upgrade my Verizon Wireless Phone. I have had it almost 3 years now and it has started to shut off on me without me knowing. It has a cracked face plate and the case is coming apart.

I don't use it for much other than taking occasional pictures and sending text messages. The one that I have now is a LG vx7000. It has been a great phone and would love to keep using it, but I think that I need to get it replaced.

Does anyone have any suggestions on a good phone that I can get through Verizon that I can get for free or just a little bit of $$$$. Since I have been over the 2 year upgrade time, I can basically get one for free, but I would like one that will give me some longevity.

Also, what do you think of the Verizon Wireless G'zOne Type-V and the Verizon Wireless G'zOne Type-S models? They show that they are supposed to be "ruggedized" so to speak. Anyone have any input on them?

Thanks in advance.

I just bought a G'zOne type-V and I really like it so far. I'm really hard on cell phones, and supposibly this one is Andrew proof.... We'll see :)

I used to have a Chocolate, and hated it so after my 5th one I said no more...

I have the LG 8300 and have been really impressed with it. my cousin has the same phone and went Knee Boarding with it in his shorts last summer  and after her dried it out and bought a new battery, it still works fine. He is super hard on it. wore all the paint off the cover, sends about 1000 txt messages a month, and has dropped it off a lift (about 15 feet up) onto a concrete floor  and it just keeps coming back for more... all the functions still work. looks bad but works great still.
Its a good camera/video phone with mobile web, micro SD card slot for extra storage for pictures/WMA's ect, and bluetooth for your hands free kit. The battery usually last me two days, and i talk a lot (about 700-900 minutes each month)

its been out for a little while so you can probably get it pretty cheap with a new 2 year agreement (I think I paid 50 for it a little over a year ago)
just my two cents. good luck

yeah do not get the chocolate me and my girlfriend have had nothing but problems with ours. shes not hard on hers at all and it lasted less time then mine has. I guess i got a decent one cause im pretty hard on mine, dropped it from about 20 feet onto concrete and still works, but the front "buttons" are starting not too work, and it calls people on its own sometimes when i open it. hahahaha. but im more patient and dont want to spend money on insurance just to get another crappy phone so i deal with it. i just hope it makes it another year so i can upgrade for cheaper.

I have a Razor VM3 or something like that and I like it. I had an Audiovox CDM 8900? before and I hated it. I could barely hear/understand most phone calls. Now my wife has the same phone and I can actually tolerate her calling me. Before, she had the same Audiovox and it actually hurt my ears talking to her on it. No longer :D

As for abuse, I've dropped mine several times hard enough to knock the battery out and it keeps going. Granted, nothing like the last guy on the LG ;)

I have the LG ENV and it is the best phone I have ever had!

Camera is SUPERB!
QWERTY keyboard is SUPERB!
Battery life is good.
Reception is excellent.

I have been pretty rough on this phone and it has been good to me. I used to have a Motorola E-815 and before that was an LG VX-6600. I will never own anything but an LG as long as I am with Verizon, they are the best phones out there as far as I am concerned!

The G'zone (officially pronounced 'gee-zee-one', I prounounce it 'gazoney') really is very durable. Basically waterproof as long as the headset and charger ports are closed. Impact, dust, and solar radiation (yup, solar radiation...) resistant. "Ruggedized" is an actual military term and to advertise a product as such it has to pass these military tests. They're pretty intense. I attended a meeting once where we came in, ate breakfast, sat through welcomes and such and the whole time this phone was sitting in a fishbowl turned on and flipped open. An hour or so later when it finally came time to talk about it the guy picked it out of the bowl, threw it across the room against a wall, walked over and picked it up, made a phone call and put it on speakerphone. Worked like new. This was the original G'zone, I can't really speak to the newer (smaller) one.

With the enV, I read a few articles that say that the additional charges that Verizon is going to get me with is going to be substantial. What will I be faced with?

All I need this phone for is occasional text messaging and talking. I don't mind having the music end of it, but it is not necessary since I work on a computer all day every day and have my music already on it.

I doubt that I will use the email function and I don't V-CAST. What other things do this phone do that I will have to pay extra for. My budget doesn't want to creep up in price on me again.

Keep it coming guys, this is very helpful.

I have the G'Zone Type V and love it. As a glazier I'm often way up on ladders, mine fell bout 35ft and i didn't notice any damage at all. It landed on the little shock absorber deal then just tipped onto it's back... GREAT PHONE with lots of features as well.

If you just want to talk and text, that's all you'll be charged for. Just like any other phone. It has many other capabilities that you can use if you want to pay for them. VCast, VCast Music, VZNavigator (this is one of my favorites), Wireless Sync, and tons of other stuff is available if you want it.
