I know a bunch of guys are running lights like these

I have a set of LED tail lights that i want to install on my Jeep, any tips on how to do it? I need to cut holes in my body, and I dont wanna screw anything up, we dont have a hole saw big enough either...

This is the light I am installing:

bought them from Six States, a while back originally for my samurai, but now I have the jeep, and wanna get them installed

Scribe a hole with a compass and enlarge it gradually until the gromet or mounting flange fits snugly with no deformation. The hole does not need to be perfect as the gromet will seal the imperfections.

As for opening up the hole, buy a large hole-saw ( 25.00 for mandrel and bit at the Depot) or go at it with a dremel.

Did you get the lights with rubber gromets or the metal flange?

I have the hole saw here if you'd like to use it. They're really not that much to buy though, especially if you already have the mandrel. While you're at it, don't forget to install new side maker lights. It'll save you some hassles come inspection time.

Get yourself a hole saw. The one thing I noticed when doing them is to make sure you take into account the license plate frame. If you cut the hole to low the grommet will overlap on the license plate frame. This can let in moisture and it also does not look as clean of a job.
I bought mine from Six States as well. Within 1 month of buying them they had water inside the light. I took them back and they replaced them. But it happened again. I took them back as well and the guy told me that they had been having problems with a lot of them. So I took the new set I got and put a thin bead of silicone around the light where the lens and back of the light line up.

Good to know!

Anyone got one that I could borrow? Or have someone cut the holes for me? I would almost prefer that, so I dont screw up your hole saw...That lives close by? (I live in Lehi)

I know when I did mine on my old Jeep I felt the same way and that first cut almost hurt me because it had never had any body damage. Just go for it, plan your hole and just do it.

what size hole do you need the 4.35 or 5.5? the best I know of you can get a hole saw in 4 and 5 inch sizes so your going to be doing some additional cutting with either a grinder or a pair of heavy tin snips or whatever else you have handy...

These look very nice but remember to put a led over your license plate or you will get pulled over for sure...

My hole saw is 4 1/2". If I remember right, it's just a tad larger than what is needed, but works out fine. Maybe Maverick will chime in here, his was the last one I used it on.

You're welcome to use it, but I'm a ways away from Lehi. Oh, I'm in WVC. It just says Idaho due to some witness protection rules. :D

I guess I will be going with the ol' jig saw.... and be EXTREMELY careful!

I don't know if a jig saw will work. If your nervous about making it work I would just go down and buy a 4" hole saw. That is what I used then I took a rounded file and files like crazy until I had a nice tight fit.:)

Got 'em in today!!!:greg::greg:

Used the jig saw, and the dremel for the more tight spots (mostly the passenger side)

But now my blinkers blink really fast as if one of the bulbs were out. Any ideas on that?

Didn't read the post but you need a regulator of sorts that will slow it down. Google it too, I've heard it come up a bunch.
