Tires

I am looking at getting new tires on my JK here shortly. It is time to upgrade (35x12.50x17) I think I have narrowed my choices down to the Nitto Trail Grappler and the Goodyear Wrangler MTR w/ Kevlar. Does anyone have experience with these tires or any opinions. I need something that will last fairly long on road because that is where I do 90%of my driving. I am open to other suggestions on tires so throw them at me! I just want to make sure I don't regret the ones I get because it is such a big expense.

I love my Nitto TG's. They do amazingly well in Utah for wheeling. They are quieter than my stock rubi tires were. They only have about 13K on them so I can't truly speak to the longevity but I've read read they last a long time.

So far these tires are better IMO than any BFG M/T and Toyo M/T I've run.

I have ran both on my JK and really you can't go wrong with either. Having compared both tires side by side i can tell you The nittos appear to be more heavy duty. They are heavier and have beefier side walls and will probably hold up a little better to heavy abuse. Having said that though I haven't had any problems with my mtrs offroad and I think they work better on the rocks than the nittos.
The noise is comparable between the 2 but the mtr is slightly quieter has better street manners. Over all I prefer the mtr due to its lighter weight, better street manners and offroad performance. Just my experience.

If those two are your only choices, definitely go with the MT/R. In that size, the MT/R is load range C while the Nitto is load range E. This should imply that the MT/R will respond better to airing down, making it a better trail tire in my opinion. Furthermore, the MT/R seems to be known for better street manners than this Nitto (as evidenced by the post above mine).

In your proposed size, each MT/R weighs 64 pounds. I don't know what the Nitto weighs in that size, but I'd wager it is more; in size 35x12.5-18 each Trail Grappler weighs 80 pounds according to Four Wheeler magazine.

Thank you for your opinions and help! Thanks Dempsey for the info on each of the tires! I decided to go with the Goodyear MTRs! Hopefully it all goes well! I'm super excited! I'll get them put on this week and hopefully throw a picture or two up of the new look!

I am currently running the 35x12.50x20 nitto TG on my 04 dodge 1 ton diesel. I never take it off road, but I have 52000 miles on them. Hoping to get to 60000 before its time to replace them.
