To boot or not to boot

I got some shocks for my xj. I was told by a friend that I needed boots for the shocks but the current shocks don't have them. Ideas? Comments? Concerns? I just got off night shift and am going to bed but I can't get my mind to stop thinking about this. Help please.

I have never installed shock boots on any of my Jeeps, and I've never had a problem with them.
