Wondering if I should do this: I've always wanted an old woody wagon but probably never going to get one. I had the idea of making my 4runner into a "faux runner" w/ the help of a buddy that does faux painting for a living. I did a quick paint rendition of what I'm thinking of and I want some feedback. My wife thinks it is the worst idea ever invented and that it will look horribly ugly. I want your honest opinions. keep in mind that my buddy will make this look like a legit wood panel on the side of the rig, not some ugly hack job. I may do some black accent stripping above and below it to section it off from the rest of the paint. I personally think it would look kind of cool and definitely be different from all the bajillion other white 'runners around.

I also messed around with the wheels. I think I'll paint them as well to spiff them up a bit!

What do ya think?

Be honest!

I voted, but do what you want. :) I can vouch that Tyler's buddy does a KILLER faux wood painting.

I'm a fan of the retro SR5 stripes, I'd love to do something like these to my truck. In fact, thanks to this thread, I think I will.

I'll be honest. I think it's the worst idea I've heard all month. I despise faux-anything. REAL WOOD VENEERS are very thin and really look like wood because they are. If you must gussy up the Toyota, think about using real wood...

... but I think THAT"S a terrible idea too. :D

I like the wheels as you have them mock painted, but I'm not a fan of the wood panel... I think the first pic that Steve posted (white 1st fen pickup with the blue stripes) would look uber legit though!

Not often wrong. Never quite right.

I think the wood grain would be cool, but the panel should be wider, and it should be real wood, not grain.

Instead of the faux-runner, you could call it a StationRunner. Or a 4Wagon. :D

THE ONLY vehicle I'd intentionally drive with wood on it would be something along these lines. Everything else is in poor taste. :)

I do like bacon though, so that made the poll more difficult for me.

In the end, it's YOUR 4runner, so do what you want--it would certainly set it apart from all the other Toys around. I reserve the right to make fun of it afterward, though. :greg:

Thanks guys, I was on the fence and it looks like the majority dissaprove so plain white it will remain for now. I'll probably paint the wheels though and maybe do some Toyota graphics eventually.

You almost have the right body lines for this!!! Some 1X2 pine strips, 70's era paneling, a couple of buddies & an ample supply of alcoholic beverages & there it is!!:D

WOW!! DEJA VU!! Without the WOOD!!!:D:D:D
