I can see Stephen living on a barge on the GSL.
Somehow I think a barge on the GSL would be slightly less romantic than on the Seine.
But I think you may be onto something here! In wet years, the barges are luxury destinations for the rich and famous with spectacular views of the mountains. In drought years when they're resting on the mudflats, they're places to shove the "unhoused" population.

I have considered it. I can't afford a big chunk of property in the woods to escape to, but I probably could just barely afford a crappy old sailboat and slip fees at the marina.

But only just barely. And I don't have the time to keep up a big boat like that. But I've considered it.
