Tool Bags

I've got two Craftsman bags, one for all my hand tools and another for all my air tools. I couldn't be happier with either one. The hand tools bag has held up for four years without any problems. It has all my wrenchs, sockets, ratchets, dykes, pliers, leatherman, allen wrenches, drill bits... everything. It weighs upwards of 50lbs. The other has an air ratchet, hammer, impact gun, cut-off wheel, dremmel, and all associated attachments. Both bags go with me whenever I hit the trail. No clanking of any kind. So nice!

I carry two: One Craftsman and I think the other is from HF. Make sure the canvas and zipper are plenty strong. When you get one loaded up with a few tools, they weigh a bunch! Still much better than one tool box banging around...

Shawn,
I carry three main tool bags, not including parts, fluids or my socket/wrench set.

1- the "Oh sh*t bag"/Crash bag. Mainly tools I need to keep the buggy running after a roll. plus the cordless and drill bits. (they come in handy :))
2-Front end bag- everything you need to tear down a front axle and replace things. One bag, everything needed.
3-Specialty tools and anything I don't want sloshing around the jeep. :)

I am a fan of the HF bags, they fit in the tool box on the scrambler and by the time you get them full it is all you what to throw in.

Dtoy has the Craftman bags which are about the same size but have all the zippy compartments, which makes it a lot more organized. When my HF bags wear out I would consider these.

BTW we need to go find a trail... :D

I like your compartmentalization. I might adopt some of that.

I hated trying to find the tools I needed for a specific breakdown,
allen wrench from the wrench bag, lock ring pliers from plier bag, hub nut socket from the sockets, etc...

It usually took longer to put the tools away then to do the trail fix.

It is lined out just because it has worked and the more I play with heavier stuff and have bigger breaks, things have evolved, hence the Oh Sh*t bag, spark plug sockets, wable extensions, flex handle shortie rachets, baby sledge, etc

Maybe I just play too hard and break things too often. :D

As a matter of fact they are in the "oh sh*t" bag. It was good you had those. :) I bought Dtoy a set for Christmas, so we both have a set.

That was my plan when I bought my bags at HomeDepot. Front end stuff, underhood stuff, etc.

As it turned out, my big bag has the 1/2 stuff, big whammer, spindle nut, etc, plus a couple smaller bags in it. One bag is metric, the other has special stuff plus a multimeter and some electrical stuff.

My little bag is jammed full of the tools I use most often: full 3/8" stuff, gearwrenches, extensions, mother-in-law's, crescent, screwdrivers, little 1/4" sockets & drivers, file, etc. Between the two bags is nearly every tool I've ever had to use.

There's also a Mcgyver bag in the jeep, smaller, with just nuts/bolts/wire/clamps/tape/multitool. I have a wrapup set of gearwrenches with screwdrivers, channellocks and dike/pliers. Most of these go from rig to rig, 'cept the mcgyver bag.

The big bag gets strapped to the rear wheel well. The little bags get shoved down under/behind my seat. Works great.

Hey Shawn, thats the best laugh I have had in a while, sounds like we have a lot in common. I was thinking I need to replace the BIG bag I have with smaller ones. Maybe I will have some to show you when you bring this up again! :D
Did you see Meats bag (ROFL) when he got out his tools Sunday to fix his tire? I think he said he got it from HF.
I'm going to wake everyone up if I dont quit laughing!
