curious what you guys have to say about this, im looking to buy another 4Runner and it will be mostly a daily driver and im not to sold on the v6, most all the ones ive seen ( in my price range) are over 150,000 miles isnt the v6 known for head gasket failures too? also ive heard its not much more power and also its going to be less fuel efficiently right?

I have never cared for them, but a 22RE in a 2nd gen 4Runner really struggles to pull itself anywhere. So you can either get great reliability or a little more power, but sadly not both

BTW: Have you looked into the 96 and newer Runner with either a 3RZ-FE 4cyl or the 3.4L V6? Either of the two are much more powerfull, and a lot more reliable. You will pay more however, but IMO it's well worth it ;)

^^ about sums it up. My '94 3.0runner has been great, but it's certainly no speed demon, and although it's been 100% reliable, I think I'm one of the select few lucky ones. It now has 180K-ish miles and doesn't run as powerfully as it used to, and it has a rough idle and misses and stuff. I think it's on its way out, but whether it lasts another week or another decade is anyone's guess.

We have 3 in the family, '88 with the 22re, a 96 with the 3.4L and a 97 with the 3.4L. My 88 can go just about everywhere the other two can just because of grearing. IMO it all depends on what you want to do, and how you want to do it.

Yota4runner, Im in north orem. We should try to plan a trip out to 5 mile pass.

My crawler has the 3.0 in it. It runs great, no problems with 256K + on it. That being said, when that motor goes it will not be replaced with another 3.0.
