I have absolutely been loving my GX470. This V8 really moves this lighter rig. Mine's a 2005 and they went to the VVTi that year which added a few more horses to it. I've also got a totally stock 2000 LX470 that my wife drives and when I get in and drive that one, compared to my GX470, the LX just feels like a slug that can't get out of its own way.
MPG wise, when I first got it and was going easy on it I was averaging 19-20 MPG mixed, but mostly highway (Provo to SLC and back every day). Now, post- Cruiser Outfitters mods, and also a bit heavier foot now seeing what she can do, I'm getting 15-16 MPG. I think if I drove a little more light footed I'd get back up to that 17-18 easy enough. Trip to St George post-mods I avgd 17 MPG.
These things seem to be coming out of the woodworks over on IH8MUD.com in the LC 120 section if you're looking for more dedicated info on them. As was mentioned, off-road wise, there's not a *ton* of support for them, but I have had no trouble finding options for anything I've wanted to mod on it so far. Since it shares the FJ/4Runner chassis, a ton of that stuff can bolt right up. And it is really close to the Land Cruiser Prado 120 body-wise and identical chassis, so tons of Prado stuff available from other countries that can fit up to it as well. For example, the Safari snorkel we put on mine was made for the Prado 120 and it fits absolutely perfect. I've also just installed an Eezi-Awn roof rack using the mount kit for a Prado 120 -- it also was a near perfect fit.
I've yet to get it off-road yet really, but I have no doubts it will be a great rig in that department.
@mbryson, as discussed per PM, wheels (and tires if you want) are yours if you want them. They're the stock 17x7 Lexus wheels and they'll fit right up to yours and look a helluva lot better than those 20s. [emoji14]
