For those who'd know... Is the Tacoma 3rd member the same as older 8" diffs? Are lockers interchangeable? Anyone have a price on a Detroit for a Taco axle?

well if a trd 3rd fits in a 8inch 3rd on a diff vehicle i think u answerd ur own question.

but...

from what i understand they fit but u have to do a lil grinding in the housing to make them work.

never bought a locker so i wouldnt know how much one costs. but im sure a lock right is like 250 and a detroit is probably 500-600.

If it's a non-locker Taco, it's a different third than the "standard" 8". Can't swap in an older third, can't swap in an E-locker.

If the truck is non-TRD, then the rear axle is actually an 8.2" and the TRD E-locker will NOT fit directly into the housing... It is the same diff as used in the Tacoma, Tundra, and T100, a bit bigger than the standard 8". As far as I know, the only options are ARB/LR...

Humm.... thanks for the accurate info Carl & Kurt.

I wonder if I could find a complete TRD Taco axle... $$$$

I'm shooting for a 60" wide, 6 lug rear axle that's beefy enough to run up to 36-37" tires.

Tacoma, Tundra, and T100,

It seems to me I have come across issues between those drop outs. The Tundra and T100 are different but not by much but I cannot remember which is the same as the Taco. I hate the small differences I have come across lately with Toyotas.

The WMS should be 60.25 and 5.29 gears are 159.00 to 279.00 depending on brand. Yukon being the most. I've heard from a person in California that said he talked to Tractech at an auto show and he said they are releasing a Detroit locker sometime this year. So far its an ARB, lockrite or no-slip. The Aussie locker should be out anytime too.
