My son has a Tundra with LT 275/70 R16 tires rated at Max tire pressure of 65 pounds but that sounds high for just running around town. One tire shop suggested 32 pounds. What do you guys use?

Max pressure is just that, the maximum pressure required to meet the maximum rating of the tire. I would imagine the tires on your son's Tundra have a max rating of around 5,000 to 6,000 pounds PER TIRE at that max. pressure! Seeing how the entire vehicle probably weighs around 6,000 lbs, running at max pressure would be unwise... tread will wear in the center and traction will be compromised.

Long story short, 32 PSI is a good median. If he is towing or hauling a heavy load, upping the tire pressure is a good idea. I would imagine that with a max rating of 65 PSI, those tires he has are 'E' rated? They would be meant for hauling heavier loads, more support under pressure. It might be wise to run higher than 32 PSI if they're E rated.... say, 40/45/50 PSI, feel how they ride and keep an eye on the tread wear. Adjust as needed.

I run my tires at 50 psi on my KM2's. 9k lb truck. Probably still a little high but if I go past 45 my TPMS light comes on.

On the door it says 32 pounds but for a 265/65x17 not a 275/70x16. So it looks like we go with 32.

Unless you are like me taking a newer Jeep up to a larger E rated tire I would just stick with ti factory sticker on the door. It will keep the tire pressure nanny from yelling at him and probably give him much better tire life and ride quality than the god awful 65 psi that most people have no reason to run. If he is towing or carrying a heavy load then the 65psi might be needed.

We are going with 32 unloaded. Thanks to everyone. I am now wondering if I should lower the air in my 2006 2500 Dodge ram. It recommends 50 unloaded all around and 60 front 75 rear loaded.
