Lets see if anyone has any ideas.

Tune Port Injected 350 out a 91 Camero,

New MSD electric fuel pump -running 45 psi
New Painless wiring harness -working great/no codes

If it has be sitting a while, 30 min + as soon as the fuel system is up to pressure it will fire and run smoothly for about 4-5 secs, then it will die...... :-\

fuel pressure check gauge shows 45ish + or - 3 when it is running

No Codes on the scanner

Fuel Pressure in and out of the fuel rail

The engine will run longer on starting fluid through the air intake... Which leads me to believe it has something to do with the fuel system,

I am not sure if the ECM is stopping power to the fuel pump. Will check that tonight...

Any ideas?

Does it make sense that the fuel pressure regulator has gone bad?

Where it runs smoothly before it dies, It makes me think that the injectors are fine, and the only other controlling factor I can think of is the Pressure regulator,

Any thoughts would be appreciated... :D

dirty filter?

is the pump just no putting out enough pressure?

and yes I believe the regulator could be the prob......................but then again I'm full of sh1t :D

This being my first go-round with TPI, at first I thought it was a plugged filter also, but I upgraded to the biggest meanest filter I could get to mount up, and changed the gas tank, (thanks grinch), trying to fix this...

Then I figured out that you can check the pressure at the fuel rail and it is up to spec, therefore it there isn't a fuel flow problem that a clogged filter would cause.

Right?

Thanks though,

but is the filter restrictive?

and if it starts to die, after 4 or 5 seconds, can you give it a little burp of the throttle and it will keep running or does it still die?

I will try that when i get home tonight. Maybe..??

You dont have a fuel problem you have a control problem. I don't think the computer is getting a signal that the engine is runing and what rpm it is turning. It tells the injectors to fire to start the engine but then stops firing them to keep it running.

Just a guess.

In addition to what has been mentioned, I would look at....

Is the pump still running when the motor stops? Still have full pressure when it stops running? The em runs the pump wo for a few seconds on startup and then switches to modulating control on demand. It could be mis-wired,ecm problem?

What is the ecm out of? Has the VATS (anti-theft) been dis-abled?

Do you have access to a noid light to check if the inj are firing?

Let me think a little more.........It's been a while....
Where are you at? Maybe I can stop by....

You guys are the best!!!

got a hold of a noid light, all of the injectors fire.

Fuel pressure...

put the gauge back on and it went right to 45, started it up and it went HIGHER.

WTF

Started checking the fuel lines, the fuel line itself was fine, but the was serious pressure on the return line???

It turned out that the return line was blocked, thus making the fuel pressure on the fuel rail jump up and hydro locking the injectors...

I have yet to road test it, but it was running great in the shop last night. :suka:

I think after it gets a little dark tonight, I will run it around to see how it runs...

I will report back on the jeep and how the cops take it. Hope for the best, something about a moving safety violation with tags that expired in april... :-\
