trail-gear sliders on a xj?

So I am in need of some sliders before my Moab trip in Oct.
I have looked around and all the sliders made for a xj are just more then I want to spend. I do have all the tools and knowledge to make my own, but with the new baby and working two jobs I just don't have time.

I want to know if anyone has or has seen the trail-gear sliders put on a xj? They are the right length and design that I want. The only thing I see wrong is I might have to cut off the front leg maybe the back leg and re-weld them in closer to the center, since I have a long arm on the jeep. Also i don't know if the angle of the step is going to hit the door when opened? what do you think worth trying or no just buy some or make some that will work?
Here is a link to the sliders.

Trail gear sliders are not shipped with the legs installed. They are loose so you can adjust to fit. This fact should be enough to make them work for you.

^ What Chevycrew said... I have heavily modified TG sliders on my Xterra, that were originally on my '99 4Runner (58" IIRC)

I put a set of hashed TG sliders on Ryan's XJ. I had to cut and shorten them because they were too long. I used some 3x3 angle iron as frame plates. worked well. lot's of work, but they were almost free.

I'd just do what we did on Cory's.

I will be getting the 58" ones so i will not need to shorten them at all.

seems like after you modify them to fit the pich weld etc, you will be into about the same as what actual xj ones would cost plus a lot of your time

spend $40 on a 10' piece of 2x6 from wasatch, cut out rockers and weld them in. easy, cheap, strong and high-clearance. add steps if you want :D

I agree on the 2"x6". Cory and I did his that way. with the plasma cutter it was easy. it looks good.

I won't lie, the reason those trail gear ones are so cheap is they are .120 wall hrew (at least the ones I put on Ryan's XJ) meaning (they where already dented) and will dent all to heck.

yeah with a plasma it'd be cake but it's still easy enough with a cut-off wheel. you could even do 2x8 if you want extra door protection and/or step room
