I also went tho the larger size and increased my tires load rating. I bought mine a discount tire also. Cant go wrong with getting the replacement plan. I also carry a spare and an extra tire just in case.

Last set I put on we're 16 ply. Ordered three 7000lb axles to replace the two 7000lb torqflex on my trailer now. Hopefully that will solve my tire issues!

I bought mine from Hendersons about a year ago. Their price for wheels and tires was the same as everyone wanted just for the tires. I think they cost me 130-140 each. Mine are 16 inches

A friend recommended going to TDS so I gave them a call. (4) ST205/75/15 Hercules 8ply radials, mounted, balanced, with road hazard warranties out-the-door for $392!

That's a full hundred less than Discount Tire! I am super happy with that deal. I considered getting 5 tires or upsizing cause of the savings but the wife said I should just get the 4 for now. I'm very happy

Smoking Deal Dude... I def saved that info!!!

I carry a couple sets of the hederson 205-tire/wheel combos as spares too, cheaper than just the tires from other stores.
My trailer has went through 3 carlisle's this past year (205/15's that came on it). After deciding to run down the last two I started running them with sets of LT tires off of KSL on the original trailer wheels and have been a lot happier with my $30 purchase's. The tread wear and sidewall flex seem to be a tade bit better. I will also admit I def go faster than 65 on a regular basis.

I guess it all just depends on the situation your in at the current time. I do carry spares now and I am always waiting till the last minute to find the best deal.

I'm having them save all 4 of the old tires. I think at least 2 of them are worth keeping around. I'd like to keep a loose tire with me in addition to the mounted spare, just in case. I will start the hunt for a cheap wheel for it but it's a Big Tex so it's the stupid 5x5 pattern...

What vehicles come with LT205's?

I need to commit to just going 65 the whole way to Moab, besides the occasional passing situation. It's safer anyways and it will take like 30 minutes longer than going 75 like I usually do.

I also found when I had the tires off last night that I have brakes on both axles. That wasn't a standard feature on my trailer from what I've read so that's awesome! The tires on it were manufactured in '04!

Bringing this thread back up, I need new trailer tires for my 26 ft flatbed that hauls two Jeeps. Discount tire guy was really trying to sell me on LT tires, specifically Michelin LTX M/S I 235/85R16. He says he sets all the big trailer guys up on LT tires and not trailer specific radials. Anyone else have experience with this type of setup? He also echoed what has already been said about trailer tires, that they are cheaply built and garbage. My trailer does go through tires faster than I would expect so looking for some opinions.

Here is a link to some good information. This article does state that all ST tires are only rated to 65 mph and higher speeds may increase heat and blowout circumstances. http://rvingwithmarkpolk.com/2012/11/08/trailer-towing-st-tires-vs-lt-tires/

The LTX M/S are legit quality tires, highly recommended by those who spend most of their time on pavement.

I've heard many arguments on either side, ST vs LT. I really don't know.

However, 65max is no good, especially where we live. That makes me wanna check my sidewall information. I do check my sidewalls when I stop and haven't noticed a lot of heat.

Best tires I ever had were the car tires that came on my 16' PJ (trailer bought used). Lasted forever, trailered well, good ride, etc. I've had pretty good luck with trailer tires though.

I just read through the article in the link and it reads pretty well, and consistent with what I have read before. The "add 10psi" to get to 75mph is good info though. I will check my rims for max psi.

I hate trailer tires. Trailer tires and I don't get along. I have just come to the realization that I should replace all my trailer tires every other year whether they need it or not. I did put a set of good truck radials on one of my boat trailers and they lasted 4 years. I have used radial trailer tires since with bad luck. I may go back to a truck radial.

I always just go down to Big Bubbas and buy them there.
New tires mounted on new wheels were $105 each last year for the 225's I put on my enclosed.
I kept the old ones around for spares...

On the larger trailers ( 16" wheels ) I only run truck tires. Any good load range E seems to work fine.
