Almost every Friday or Saturday, I drive 15 mins from my home in Draper and can spend the day offroad and/or campfire with friends all night on the same trail system.

Did I mention that AZ brings teh suk? It's always on fire and junk.

Where do you come up with this stuff?

You move to a populated metropolis yet want trails less than an hour away? Hell your not out of the subdivisions in an hour of rush-hour traffic. If you want trails in your back roads move to the other 97% of the state that isn't the Wasatch Front ;)

There are thousands and thousands of miles of off-road routes in Utah's West desert that start with the 5Mile Pass Area just west of the Wasatch Front. One can drive on dirt from 5MP to Reno, 5MP to Vegas, 5MP to Idaho, etc. We have plenty of routes.

Yes, within an hour of NON rush hour traffic I had tons of great trails in both Idaho Falls and Vegas (which is a LOT bigger than Salt Lake if you want to argue population density). Add to that all the trails within a 2 hour drive of either location and it makes what we have here seem limited in comparison.

I'm sorry that I stepped on your toes and got your panties in a bind but there IS a shortage of medium to hard rated trails in Northern Utah, especially given the huge amount of public land. There might be tons of dirt bike and atv trails but not much for us 4x4 guys unless you're going for purely scenic rides that are much more enjoyable in a stock cushy F150 than a built rockcrawler anyway.

All I did was ask why there are so few trails and I have you jumping all over me. I'd think with an avatar like yours you'd have thicker skin. It was a simple and very valid question. If more community involvement is in order I'd like to help where I can. If more funding is needed I'd like to help where I can. I see built 4x4's everywhere in this state and yet with the exception of Moab and southern utah nowhere for them to be used.

In all fairness, SLC is not the kidnapping capital of N America that Phoenix is and you're far less likely to get shot at by our coyotes. AZ skiing sux too and John McCain is the Senator and there's a bit of a hippy pob too.

All true for sure. :D It still doesn't change the fact that they have world class wheeling all over the place. :D

I think it would be cool to see some ohv parks in northern Ut. Ogden brings everything else, indoor surfing/skydiving, out door rec, .... They should add a ohv park to the rebuild ogden project.

I think this would be a wonderful idea if a suitable area could be found (not necessarily in Ogden). I think a decent sized and well built OHV park in Utah would do VERY well.

I don't know this area well but I'd be willing to bet there are a ton of suitable places for an OHV park within an hour or two's drive of Salt Lake. Even the 5 mile area has potential for more rock crawling with some trail development.

Vegas is a ghost town no one lives there anymore and Idaho Falls is in ID which is it's biggest drawback. I wasn't aware there was a rush hour in SLC. And all offroad enthusiasts in the world one day hope to wheel in AZ... please.

Are my panties in a bunch? I couldn't care less if you don't approve of the trails we have in Northern Utah, I merely wanted to know where you pull your bogus intel from. Don't flatter yourself ;)

Again with the mentality. I'm about as thin skinned as you are informed ;)

We've got trails that would eat you in Delta, St George, Price, Vernal. Comp course that beat the best in Grantsville, Price, Delta, and growing. There are dozens of trails within an hour of the Wasatch Front that provide an entertaining challenge for 90% of the 'rock-crawler' community. No offense bud but with an attitude like yours regarding our public lands availability... its a giant surprise to me you don't get invited to the good stuff more often

Exactly. Even if it were down towards Delta or something like that but had a bunch of trails it would be great.

Do tell, have you run the more technical trails Delta has to offer? Desert Mountain? Cat Canyon? Chainsaw? How about the off-road park they have built? rocked out all those obstacles. Why not start with whats there and complain once we have pics of you conquering those. Then you might hear of some others

Idaho, Utah's hat :D

I mean they do have potatoes. I actually like exploring in Idaho but this is really the first I've heard of it being a hardcore crawling magaspot for flat-biller ballers like me.

Like I said, I'm new to the area. Maybe there are plenty of great trails I don't know about which was the whole purpose of my posts. All the places you mentioned are two or more hours away which is fine, I was just curious why there aren't more trails up here.

Maybe I am ill informed and if I am GREAT, that means there's decent wheeling I don't have to spend a tank of gas on just to drive to. :D

If you want to talk about attitude, you're the one that started with the poor attitude in response to my honest question. As anyone that has been with me on the trail will attest to, I'm a pretty easy guy to get along with. ;)

Thank you for enlightening me on areas I haven't been to yet. :D I need to get down there and check them out for sure. Bit farther than I like to travel but hey, I love the sport.

Lets face it, 99% of the people on this board wheel 5 mile and little moab because that's all that's near by. Wouldn't it be great if there were other places nearby to wheel? I was just curious why there weren't and if there was anything that could be done.

Plenty of fun places to wheel in or around Idaho Falls and they're constantly developing new trails. It's not as beautiful or as expansive as moab but it really is nice to hit the trails in a half hour. Close trails were the focus of my posts and reason for my comments.

I wasn't responding to your 'honest question', I was replying to your misleading and misinforming comments. How my comment was deemed a 'poor attitude' is beyond me.

...I was just curious why there aren't more trails up here.

Lets get the crayons out. Find a map of Utah and draw a 50 mile radius around Salt Lake... color it red as its likely private property or a new subdivision in the works. Now shade everything north of Spanish Fork and west of I-15 blue as its likely Forest Service land and the charter of the FS has zero interest in holding routes that don't service 99% of their users and thus are not managed as such. Now, color everything west of the Wasatch Front green, its good to go but it is comprised of mostly desert, some love it, others loathe it, I'm not in your shoes to decide. Now, everything south of Spanish Fork is too far of a drive for you so color it any color that inspires you to drive more than 1 hour.

The real answer, a combination of lack of topography, land ownership, lack of demand, lack of investment and urban sprawl. You can't argue that the Wasatch Front has the best balance of year round recreation and base for adventure but if having a rock-crawling hotspot in every direction is your need, you chose the wrong place to live.

Now your getting my poor attitude ;)
