Tooele County Trails Meeting

When: Thursday November 16th, 2006 at 7:00 PM

Where: Auditorium at the Tooele County Courthouse on 47 South Main in Tooele.

What: Let our voice be heard! Support public land access in Tooele County!

If you live in Tooele County (or even if you don't), it is urgent that you attend the Tooele County Trails Meeting on Thursday the 16th at 7:00 PM. The meeting will be held in the Auditorium at the Tooele County Courthouse on 47 South Main in Tooele.

The Tooele County Trails Committee is seeking public input regarding use of public lands in Tooele County. They are primarily seeking input from residents of Tooele County, but opinions of people who recreate in the area will also be accepted. U4WDA will be there to present our position.

Several rockcrawling trails including Rattlesnake and Constrictor are in Tooele County. We would like to encourage the Trails Committee to open additional trails and roads in the area.

Public opinion is gauged at these meetings. This is our chance to make a strong impression on the Tooele County Trails Committee.

Just got back from this meeting and I would call it a success. The Tooele County trails commitee is sick of hearing about things that need to get done and ready to start getting into doing things. A very exciting time with a small window but great opprotunities. Now is the time to buckle up and get involved there is a lot to do and a seemingly very responsive commitee to assist us. There is plenty of things to get done and it will really require everyone to get on board. So if you enjoy the snakes, or would like to see more trails open, get involed! Thanks to all those from RME that helped out who were there:)

If anyone got the name of the guy with the big hat, I'd appreciate it. He took off before I got a chance to grab him.

First impression is... ok. I think that so far the Tooele County reps seem genuinely interested in keeping trails open and aren't outwardly ANTI-4wd.... so anyone who lives here, PLEASE get involved, it could make all the difference in the world.

Yes, a great meeting! Thanks to everyone who came out! Of the 50+ people there, 4 were anti-motorized access. Tooele County got the message loud and clear! But there's still a TON of work to be done. More info to come. Getting on a plane in 6 hours. Seeya.

good riddens steve... sheesh.. thought he'd never leave... ;)

meeting went very well. it opened with a brief intro about the mission and goals if you will about the Tooele County Trail Committee. basically they are looking into any and all access routes of ANY kind (OHV, foot, equestrian, access points, roads, trails... you name it)

we split into 2 groups to discuss opinions and ideas, but mainly what areas we want to see open, bottom line. Paul and i were in the other group from Steve, Corey of Gold Rush Expeditions, Tacoma, TooeleCherokee, and some other RME'ers, Caleb and his buddy, and Brian... anyways, we had absolutely no anti OHV people in our group, so we were most definately heard loud and clear. big support from ATV'ers and equestrian riders allowed lots of great shared ideas. some i jotted down are as follows:

*More descriptive right-of-way laws (RS 2477 was brought up to a degree)
*Better public education on OHV use/abuse (aimed more at ATVs)
*Clubs/groups spend weekends policing trails/riding areas
*More effectively planned and mapped OHV areas with trail markers, available maps, info, info, info...
*Specifically assigned 'General Riding' areas (cross country travel for ATV's to tear up) vs. well established and marked trail systems for scenic and other 'trail type' rides
*Easier access between private property and the public land
*Education for the private land owner AND the public land user
*Etequette(sp?) boards at trailheads, set boundries, established routes
*Eagle Scout projects to map areas in the county (find out who owns what land, how long roads have been established, access, restrictions, and so on.. and turn it into the TCTC... (75,000 scouts in the SLC area use Tooele County for it's recreation, due to recreation areas surrounding the valley being shut down and closed)

there were 4 people at the last meeting of this type... there was 50+ tonight... RME came up in our discussions about having adopted trails or areas(the snakes). we need to keep on this, and push hard to get lots of trails established and protected by the county... they are for it, they just need to see the cooperation and help from those who plan on using it.

NEXT MEETING WILL BE 3PM FIRST THURSDAY OF EVERY MONTH SAME PLACE!! I'LL BE THERE.... WILL YOU?

Cool, that's about what we got as well.

I got to talk to a few people afterwards, that have been in Tooele FOREVER and they're all for U4WDA doing the right thing, which is encouraging. They aren't people that really LIKE 4wd trucks either, which is even better.

also, if you have ANY GPS points for trails out in the Tooele County area, or have specific areas you want to have access to, email them to BSWAYNEY@BEARWEST.COM that should be right...

.. then that cute little truck is at least good for entertainment ! lol

EVERYONE SHOULD JOIN THE FIGHT TO KEEP THE TRAILS FREE!!!

Figure that out of the 50 that showed up, 10 of us are united for something, that's not bad. It matters who stands up for their cause. Those boards looked nicely pro-motorized vehicle at the end of the night.

Hey!

Gold Rush Expeditions plans on being at that meeting as well. We also will be at the next U4 board meeting to get more involved and give you guys some of our nifty little stickers.:D

I think we're all headed down the same path and working together will make a huge difference. I was really excited about the positive response we recieved at Tooele's meeting. Yay for access!
