Trains!

On average, one coal train makes UP $100,000 AFTER all costs are paid for; fuel, engine/car maint, track maint, multiple train crews pay, etc.

HOLY! I live right by the tracks and see/hear coal trains all day long.

Our speed record is 38...:ugh:
We usually travel down the tracks about 24-27 mph. That is where it is comfortable. The only time we have fallen of it when the tracks are wet, too wide or NOT THERE! See pic!

Someone stole a section of track!!

My father inlaw works for RGR and said with the cost of diesel fuel going up more companies are using the trains.
Look at the main track transfer in Salt lake city, 21st s. and I15, LOTS of trains.

38!! That's pretty fast. 24-27 sounds about right. What's the origin/reason for the "conversion"? do you work for the RR? Use the rails (only abandoned of course ;)) to explore/get somewhere?

Just wanted to try it! I kept seeing these abandanded tracks out in NV and decided to check them out. I found some old RR Rims and had them machined to fit the truck and away we went. There is about 18 mile of cut off tracks and about 90 miles of non-used track we have run on.
My friend and I are just train geeks and thought is sounded fun to run the rails. We have another full set of rim, just no one to machine them.
